Thank you guys for all your replies! I really appreciate it. I paid around $650 for it. Should I return it or ask for a partial refund?
Whether it was a result of fingernail scratching or something else, if the jacket was sold to me as being brand-new / unworn, I wouldn't accept any damage unless it was stated in the listing.

What irks me the most is that this issue could get worse and more of such spots could appear. That and the fact that the issue was not disclosed despite me asking if it had any damage major or minor.

Also it appears the area was waxed or some product was applied to hide it as it was very oily to the touch.

It's a shame leather is so fragile. Can't ever enjoy it if its been touched or even worn. Stop wearing em on motorcycles boys, it's only for walking through a fine watery mist in an open field.

If you paid $650 for it, it’s not like you made the deal of the century (it’s $775 new from Schott) so if those 2 blemishes are really bugging you that much I would request a return and buy new directly from Schott.

That said I also think that if you wear it out twice you’ll probably get those kind of marks anyway.

It's actually 1000Eur/$1125 from Schott in the EU...

What?! Right I didn’t know that... the he got it at 40% off the full retail price. I guess that’s a good deal if the only issue are those 2 little scratches. Unless it doesn’t fit...

Agreed! The question is if its just two little scratches or a more severe leather defect which will overtime appear on other parts of the jacket. As for fit, it's quite good actually!

I'm tellin' you, try to peel off some more. Just a tiny bit more. See if it comes off easily. If it does, something is off. If not, you're good. The jacket will look great after a few years of wear, regardless of whether the finish comes off more easily or not so I wouldn't worry all too much about it but it's best to be sure. That's a lot of money.

A simple way to test adhesion of a topcoat (any topcoat, not just on leather), is a Scotch tape test. Press a small piece of Scotch tape onto the surface so that it covers both the blemished area and the topcoat adjacent to it. Pull it off. If it takes some of the topcoat with it, I'd worry that the adhesion between the topcoat and the leather surface is weak. I used to do this type of testing on all kinds of coatings - made a cross-hatch pattern with a blade on the surface, stick tape to it, and rip it off. Good coatings never came off with the tape. Decidedly low-tech, may not mean much, but this test will detect a crappy coating. Try it at home on some leather swatches, lol.

the scratch looks clean, doesn't leave half peeling edges and the shape looks like a square or geometrical can be from a scrape from a key, or tool mark, or objects, if it has unnatural shape or you see the edges lifting off like it would continue then I would worry.

Careful with this F.M. - take care to do this somewhere where it doesn't show. I find this can sometimes scar even a nicely executed dye job on an Aero. 'Good coatings' may still be damaged. Remember dye on a natural material like hide is generally designed to scuff, wear and fade.

I think yours is doing what it is meant to do but it has been helped along the way by some injudicious handling in a shop, or whatever. It happens. I would probably add 6 times that amount of damage in the first 4 weeks.

But maybe yours is more serious than this - anything is possible.

I think as long as you don't find any bubbles elsewhere then you can be certain this is just scuffed marks not faulty leather, if the top coat is weak, then you must find area with top coat creating bubbles/ blister/ air pocket before peeling off elsewhere on creases and such.

This isn't anyone being fussy. Peeling of the top coat has been a serious problem for a number of companies and we simply know how to identify it. Look at the photo @Carlos840 posted. The jacket on the pics was bought brand new from an authorized retailer and this is what happened within a month. The maker immediately acknowledged it as a faulty product and replaced the jacket, even though the buyer had it modified prior to noticing the problem.

Same thing happened with a batch of Schott HH jackets. Schott replaced every jacket that was reported problematic and recalled the rest.

I hope this is just going to turn out to be a case of few tiny scratches. But I know what nicks look like. Finish shouldn't be peeling off. Never, ever.

Another example. That's a $1300 jacket by one of the top makers. You will notice this aren't scratches or "patina". That's finish flaking off of an otherwise intact surface of the leather. No matter what you do with a leather jacket, this should not be happening.

I don't care about buying leather jackets with holes if they're tanned correctly but this is obviously a faulty product.

I remember seeing this jacket on the IH forum, it was machine washed on high heat and then tumble dried on high heat too, which is a really really dumb thing to do IMO.
I don't think this is a fair comparison, you can't put user stupidity and manufacturing defects on the same level.
