New Review: Meet John Doe (1941)

Thank you, Midnight Palace. Nice review. When we saw Meet John Doe as children, at the George Eastman House theatre, my brother and I were very impressed. I yet admire the common man theme.
Before my hubby went into the Army the PBS station showed it late one Sunday night. Instead of gambling online, his usual activity, he watched it with me. He was so taken by the movie he wondered if there were ever really John Doe clubs, if there still were, and if he could start one.
My public library owns this movie and it's constantly borrowed.

Very nice, but you might want to also mention the difficulty that Capra had finding a suitable ending for the film after writing himself into a corner - he ended up writing/shooting several. See Capra's wonderful autobio, "The Name Above The Title," for details.

Thanks for reading it guys!

Good suggestion Doc. I actually read about Capra's difficulty with the ending in Stanwyck's biography but will definitely pick up Capra's autobiography. I've heard from quite a few people that it's a good read.
