Just got this one. Very clean quilted lining. Looks like an early post-war Talon zipper. Huge sleeves. Missing label. Horsehide? Steerhide?

It does have some nice aging to it. Leather has a nice feel too. It is full in the chest and shoulders and really fitted in the waist and short. I'm really drawn to this era and style of leather jackets.

Looks good, Terry. Tough to tell if horse or steer. I would guess steer, given the amount and structure of the grain, but who knows. Looks like a fairly nice fit. Collar construction reminds me of your ELMC Californians...love how it lays and sits at a 90 degree angle to the face.

Interesting we need a label to tell us what leather it is! I got a message from a friend/member here. He makes and repairs and he thinks Horsehide. My Lost Worlds Roadmaster has a similar looking back. It is HH. The collar is a great one, really nice when you flip it up. Real 50s Vibe.

I also think it’s HH. I’m no expert by far, but judging from the hides I’ve seen. But then, those were "new“ hides...
My argument would be that it’s got a lot of random grain, plus a lot of differently structured areas. I have the feeling that steer usually has a more even structure, even though it can be really grainy too.

That J-100 is a beauty. Yes the back looks very much like my low weight HH Lost Worlds Roadmaster. Not all like the heavier weight LW.

Yes. I have another jacket like this one without the chest pocket and front piping. Didn't think about it when I bought it. I know it is crazy but I've got a half belt coming that is pre-war and near mint.
