New member who needs some advice (likes Aero)

Many thanks to all the members who have responded.

It will definitely be something mid-weight this time.

I love the look of FQHH, when it has worn in some, and I also love the heritage aspect of it.

I looked at some of the samples I have and Seal Jerky horse is another possibility.
I think I have narrowed it down to
Brown Veg tanned goat
Seal jerky A2 Horse (suggested by Plumbline)
Midweight Steer

Good choices. As others have posted, many period jackets used lighter leather than FQHH. Jerky Horse has many of the qualities that a jacket from the time would have had.

Since Aero just added the new Italian MWHH to their stocklist, that has to be a serious consideration as well.

Fanch, this morning I have placed an order for a work coat and booked flights to Edinburgh. The coat will not go into production until after I have had a fitting and selected which hide. I have been fortunate with the timing as the new Italian horse seems to be ideal.

My main worry now is when I go to the factory, heaven knows what all I might come home with.

I have a hat made of it, light, flexible and mostly waterproof. I belive a lot of M/C racing suits are made of it due to its abrasion resistance.

Getting ready to order my first Aero also. Fanch you gave me good advice on the B&G coats a year or so ago. I know have 5 and enjoy them all. All very comfortable..........i'm more into comfort than fashion. Is the Teamster your favorite? This thread has been a great help guys....thanks.

There is no jacket that I have that I like better than my Teamster, which is a fantastic all purpose jacket as one can order the body length that provides the greatest flexibility. For my 6'2" frame, my personal preference is a back length between 28 and 29 inches for this style/use. A Teamster in FQHH or Aero's new Italian MWHH would be great.

Im new to this forum. Im about to order my first custom made jacket, its going to be a Aero Teamster in heavy steer hide. I havent found any info on Aeros web site about their warranty. Anybody knows anything about their warranty on jackets?

Yep. 20 years ago you could still buy roo jackets here made by artisan bike leather specialists. Roo now goes overseas and it's hard to find.

it is thin (2oz?) and tough as nails. My jacket was very stiff, dense and heavy (even though it was quite thin) and took about 15 years to break in and never quite got there. It reminds me of Horween FQHH in terms of density and stiffness. But really anyone's experience with this hide will probably all depend on the individual hide, how it was tanned and prepared, etc. There may well be some people who have found roo to be soft and pliable. I finally gave mine to a goodwill shop as it felt like wearing unyielding armour and that's not what I need in a jacket.

Really? This is the first time I heard that about kangaroo, thought about having a summer jacket made in that, seems that I will have to do some homework first then.

Aero Heavy Steerhide is not for the faint hearted but is well worth the effort to break in - In my experience about 5 years

As for warranty, I believe that they offer a lifetime guarantee on their jackets (apart from natural wear & tear?)

I too belive it will be an awesome jacket. Im a bit nervous about the sizing thou, but I guess thats normal when one orders via the web.

I asked to have my own buttons sawn on to it, they are grey metal field uniform buttons from the era 1938-1959, I think they will look really cool on it.

I dont mind wearing it in, Im currently fighting with my two months old Saddleback backpack, so one more ithem to break in wont´t matter

One must remember Kangaroos are wild culled from different environments and several species. So there will be different ages and size of beasts. I imagine skins from a tough old male might be different from a dainty young female. I have noticed there seems variable uniformity in skins with hair on hide sold at markets over here.
