Hi, I am a new member but have been following the site for quite some time. I run a historical museum and we have events from many time periods so I wear many hats, literally and figuratively.

Welcome to the Lounge Dave. As a fellow historian, I got into this hobby because my wife thought I needed a "signature" hat. 100+ hats later, I think she regrets that statement. Tell us more about the historical museum! Where? What type?

Hello, my name is Charlie. I am an Englishman living in the medieval Chartres, about one hour south-west of Paris in France.

A great role model in my life was my best friend's father. A Captain in the British Army during World War II who went on to be a stockbroker in the City of London. He was your archetypal English gentleman. Courteous to a fault, a great sense of humour and sartorially a master of dishevelled elegance! I love how he never dressed down without ever looking like he had dressed up.

Many years later I have somewhat shamelessly copied his style. So I wear my covert coats and tweeds in the winter and my linens and seersuckers in the summer with my brogues and bucks. However, I have never quite managed to find the perfect hat!

So I have had the idea to try and make my own hats. I am not expecting to make anything as nearly as nice as the professionals but I may get a better idea of what suits me, what I like, what I don't like and what goes into making a hat. This seems to be the perfect place to learn how to do just that.

I liked your “disheveled elegance” turn of phrase. That sums up a great look that is hard to get right unless you grew up with master practitioners; it’s easy to get it wrong.

I shamelessly copy other’s styles. I have commissioned many custom hats by sending the hatter a photo I took of other’s hats here on the Lounge.

Yes it is, thank you. I have a couple, but this one is my favorite by far.

I have three Fed IVs myself; Dark Brown and Tawny Fawn in the Imperial Quality felt, and Moonstone in the Deluxe/Heritage Quality felt. With the exception of my Alley Kat Hat Co. custom fedora, they're my favorite hats until something better comes along.

Hi All,
Am a new member just last night and have discovered this site this summer and have been browsing and reading up on men's long lost passion for hats, but since then they surely is making a comeback and I for one in is for the long haul.

Thanks for having a site like this for us to share/show/nitpick and what not about these fine gentlemen's topper that makes up our whole character unique to each individuals.
