Hi, new member here! Thanks for allowing me onboard.

Though I spent my teenage years in cowboy boots and a Silverbelly cowboy hat, since I left that cow town upon graduating High School in 1975 I've not owned either article. (Nor have I been on a horse, or driven a pickup truck full of hay, or fired a Winchester, since that time.)

Now, at the age of 60, I found myself lurking on these forums to find out about fedoras. A week ago I didn't know a C-Crown from a hole in the wall; you all have been extremely informative.

I have my first felt hat (since 1975) wending its way towards me now, got fairly cheaply on Ebay. What got me interested in all of this is the TV show Stranger Things and the wonderful hat that Chief Hopper wears. I will do my first hat bash when that Akubra comes, and see what happens.

My daughter and I have been going to Comic Cons for several years now. I have her to blame, perhaps, for getting me involved in the world of Cosplay. Here I am recently

I too am bombarding people with questions.

There are other forums where I am one of the old-timers, and patiently field the same newbie questions over and over. I know the question the newbie just asked gets asked and answered once a week- but the newbie doesn't know it, otherwise he wouldn't be asking! So us old heads are cordial and helpful.

I know I'm late but I wanted to add my welcome.

If you wouldn't have said something I never would have guessed your image was cosplay, you fit right in with how lots of Loungers dress. :)

Hi, just joined the forum. I am a regular hat user, mainly western fur hats (a couple Shantung), and have been a big fan of Stetson, of which I own several. I used to live in the Dallas-Ft.Worth metroplex area, so for a decade I visited the Stetson-Resistor factory outlet store (located in Garland, TX). I miss not being in that area anymore.

RJR and all,

Thanks for the welcome. I am now stationed in southern NJ, where I work as research horticulturist and extension specialist supporting growers/farmers that produce trees, ornamental plants and sod. Love the area and my job, but I certainly miss Texas. Anyways, in my work circles I am known as the guy with the (Stetson) cowboy hats.

I found this hat in antique store...was only $10, with 60s era Sear hat box (not original to hat tho...and tossed box as it was not in greatest of shape. Anyway, here are some pics. It is a bowler, and says Bennet and Fish, Cleveland...only identifying aspects on the hat. Any info is greatly appreciated.

If you didn't buy it, run, don't walk back to that shop and plop down the $10. Bring it home, and then, we will figure out what you have. I would say it is probably quite old, beautiful and interesting color...and vent holes. Be still my heart. Wish my head would shrink.

Pretty sure the OP implied he now possesses the hat. This is interesting to me, because most bowlers and derbys I see are black or gray. I'm no expert in dating these hats, they always all looked the same to me ;)

I was a little unclear. Hopefully he will be back. Although the bulk of Derby/Bowler production is classic black, these odd colors show up from time to time. I have not started any research on this brand, but with millions of these stiff felts produced since the mid 19th century, it is a cool one for sure. Wish it was bigger!
