Im at my lowest point on this jacket
FS: GRAIL Lost Worlds LEATHERTOGS Motorcycle Jacket, This is it the jacket of all jackets. I waited for this jacket for 8 months and it is nothing short of a work of art. I am making myself sell what I don't use, I have another Lost Worlds jacket that I have had for 9 years and it took me about 2 to break it in, they are the best in my opinion. I added all the bells and whistles, NOS Crown locking main Zipper and all other zippers are Crown as well. Tag says 42, but will fit a 40 or a 38, its a shortcut jacket like Buco J23, so it sits just at the waist if not slightly above depending on your build. I rode with it a few times, it needs 2 years steady use to break in, and I always just grab my Easy Rider instead. -- look at the pics, its perfect and the Leather is the best of the best... retail is 1650 before the zippers (+250) -- I will take 1100+ shipping and I think that's A STEAL as I would say its 98% new.

From Lost Worlds site"To reproduce this one-of-a-kind American classic we use, of course, our magnificent 4.0 oz. Russet Horsehide. The Lining --"Time Machine" NOS heavyweight pure Rayon Satin per the original, dating from the 1940s. Nickel NOS Talon Zippers and genuine US-made Nickel over Brass Sam Browne Buckle. Riveted Belt Loops. US Nickel Scovill Snaps. Die-Cast Nickel Bars made for us in the UK accent the horizontal pocket edges. "

Very nice. Love the vintage zippers.
Numbers might not quite be there for me I'm afraid.
I have a Langlitz here that is really at my limits size wise. I can wear it and I'll keep it and ride with it, at least for a while, but any smaller and it would not fit.
These LostWorld numbers are all just an inch or two smaller.

Are you sure this is a 42?
How tall are you?
Well first of all, is that you in the fitment picture or is that a sample photo from the manufacturer?

The other problem is that for the price or only another few hundred extra, I could have Lost Worlds, Langlitz or just about anyone make a jacket specifically for me and perfect in every dimension. So why pay the same money for a jacket that was made for someone else and hope it fits. That said, if it was a little bigger, I might buy it because it's already very nice and ready to go. If we were in the same city I would definitely meet to try it on, if only to make sure it does not fit, so I can extinguish all hope and sleep at night.

The way I see it, you have three options, but only one reasonable one.
1. You must find someone who is a perfect fit for this jacket who:
a) Wants a jacket like this. b) Can afford a jacket of this caliber. c) Finds your ad selling this jacket.
2. You lower the price to a point where the "maybe it will fit" group will take a risk on it and buy it with more hope and can afford to be less cents-ible.
3. Keep it and enjoy it as best you can until you feel you can sell it at a proper "used" price, where it's not competing with new jackets.

I wish I could be more helpful.
Good luck with it.

Sad but very true. I have paid full price for multiple Lost World’s, Aero and Thedi. Then, turned around and sold them at a 40% reduction in price, in new condition. Then, I see the same jacket a year later being sold again for the same price approximately. Only I have taken the money hit. Depreciation sucks. But that is the way it is. And it has not diminished my enthusiasm for the jackets I seek to love, only made me wiser in fit and style as to what works.

You make it sound like he is trying to sell the jacket for new price...
This is a $1900 jacket, selling used for $1100, the difference is more than "only another few hundred extra", it is almost 50% of new price! How is it competing with a new jacket?
I think his asking price is very fair, and if it fit me i would pay the money for it.

Yes.
He is trying to sell the jacket for a "new price".
As I said, you can buy a lot of very nice, new jackets for $1100.+ dollars.

I also said, I would consider buying the jacket if it fit me. The same thing you said.
I never said the price for the jacket was unreasonable. I simply said that it's in the realm of new, custom made jackets which means it's competing with all jackets used and new up to and over $1000. That is a lot of competition.

This may be a critique of the circumstances but not a criticism. These are simply facts.

But you are comparing different makers!
Do you go to Ferrari stores telling them you could buy a new Ford for less than one of their used cars?
Do you go to butchers telling them you could buy vegetables for less than they sell their meat?

It seems strange to think that the fact that you can buy a new Aero for $700 means a used LW can't be worth $1100.
If you want to buy that jacket new, you need $1900 that is also a simple fact.

You're funny.
I am not comparing different makers.
I am commenting on an open market.
No one has to buy the jacket even if we all want to.

I never said the jacket was not worth $1100. It's not to me, mostly because I don't think the numbers add up to a fit.
IF it did fit then it would be a lot more valuable to me. Same as you.

Again, I never said the jacket was not worth $1100. This is about the third or fourth time I've said that.
If you keep thinking that's what I'm saying, it says nothing about me or the jacket. It says that you are not listening. I can't make you look at things from another perspective.
I can only explain my opinion. I can't understand it for you.
Cheers.

I don’t think it’s a nice habit to put pressure on the seller to lower the price. At the end of the day what your are saying ShadowBoxer is that you would consider buying it for a lower price. I’d say put through an offer using a PM and see how it goes if you are interested.

First of all - beautiful jacket! I'm currently searching for such kind of a jacket (or similar one) and the measurements are perfect for me except the wide shoulders (usually I wear 17.5-18"). I'm really torn if it is worth a try as I don't know how the wider shoulder would look like.

Let me help a bit if i can, if you check out my database you will see pictures of different shoulder width, going from 18.5" all the way to 20.5". All you should expect is a little bit more shoulder droop and a slightly longer overall arm length.
IMO 1.5" more or less in the shoulders is pretty meaningless compared to other areas.
If every other measurement is good i think you are pretty safe. Just be aware that if the arms are already on the longer end of the spectrum for you wider shoulders will make it worst.

https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/my-leather-jacket-database.93804/

The LaBrea on page 4 is the widest at 20.5, the RMC on page 3 is the narrowest with 18.5

Thanks Man!! Beautiful collection. Your La Brea is my favorite as I like FW and their Shinki (your Himel Chevalier is also beautiful but I prefer FW's Shinki as it has a softer touch and is more pliable). Unfortunately the LaBrea is too expensive for me (otherwise I could not afford the vacation with my family which is more important)...this LW Leathertogs also exceeds my budget but it is much closer (would need to sell another jacket or boots for it...). Based on your help I guess it would fit me....it respectively my "Finance Minister" at home ;-) was hoping that someone says it doesn't fit ;-)

It’s a fair price for certain. But so were all the points he made regarding the challenges of resale in this market. Most of us here have lived this scenario.

When the seller initially listed this jacket, it was close(R) to a new LW price for this model. So it was a bit easier to rationalize spending a FEW extra hundred dollars (not counting the crown zipper price) to have Stuart make a new one fit to your exact measurements.

At $1100, this is a solid deal for someone looking for a LW. If you HAVE $1100 dollars to spend on a jacket, find the one you want and buy it. Otherwise, if you are looking for a great LW and this model appeals to you/fits you - why spend the extra money on a new one if you don't have to?

Carlos is right, this isn't about too many choices. This is about spending 1100 on a jacket that would normally cost you 1900 new.

While i find valid arguments from both sides of the debate, I find it rude and unnecessary for anyone to tell a seller why they think their price is wrong. People can ask what they want, the free market will handle the rest. This is the CLASSIFIEDS section not the outerwear DISCUSSION section.
