Any ideas on the vintage of this Homburg?

Mid '40s. Homburgs are great hats, and they just don't make them like that anymore, not with that kind of brim curl. A nice color on it, too.

the unusual label states the rayon lining is made of rayon yarn from Celanese. I was unsure of when that came out.
I would love to flatten the btrim and remove the curl while keeping edge binding. Any suggestions or opinions as to whether that might be successful?

I'll be the first (but not the last) to say "don't do it!"

Homburgs are harder to find than fedoras. Try the homburg look and if you don't like it sell it off. Keep it a homburg, the hat gods beg you.

Of course, it's your hat so it's your decision.

Got the same tag (regarding the rayon) in one of my old Stetsons. I've long suspected it was a post-war (but barely so) hat. But that's just a hunch, you know.

I'm normally not one to raise my voice, but thunderw21 is right -- DON'T ALTER THAT HOMBURG! I've done it to one of mine, with so-so results, and I now wish I hadn't, even after reshaping the brim with a proper brim flange. Yeah, of course it's your hat, to do with as you please, but I'm guessing you'd come to regret it if you were to change the shape of that brim.

Thunderw21 has another thing right -- vintage fedoras are common compared to homburgs. If you'd rather have a bound-edge fedora, I'd imagine there are several people here who would swap you one for that lid of yours. Depending on size, I might be able to make you such a swap myself.
