Hello!

Hello ladies!
Looks like I'm another in a long line of readers who've only just joined.. I spend hours on here when I can't sleep and end up getting the bobby pins out every time!
I love vintage style hair and makeup, but mixing things up by teaming it with alternative outfits.. That said I've a yen on me to but a tea dress at the moment!
Anyway, best be off to uni now, see you soon!

Delighted to make your acquaintence...

I'm so pleased to have found The Fedora Lounge...such an elegant spot!
I'm English, vintage circa 1960, with a deep appreciation for the 20s, 30s and 40s. I prefer not to describe Vintage as a lifestyle - I have a life, not a lifestyle! - and crave a way of life centred on old-fashioned values and courtesy.
Thank you for allowing me to join you!

Glad to see you finally made it. Hopefully you will inspire me to wear more vintage.

Hi Everyone!

I've always been a history buff. My first job was clerking for an auction gallery. Then my husband got me into the hotrod scene and car culture. "Dressing up" for the car shows was a blast! So why can't I do this every day? Glad to see (from several posts) that I'm not the only one aspiring to have a totally vintage wardrobe! I've been dressmaking for years and usually gravitate towards the late '40s. This extends to my house - almost all 40s furniture including stove and fridge - and my hobbies - sewing, canning, raising chickens and making do. And, yes, I have sheep and spin.

Hello lovely ladies, I'm another lurker who's finally decided to start posting.

I've always dressed a bit vintage - I used to flitter from decade to decade, but in January last year I spotted a lady walking down the street with a 20s bob and red lipstick, and realised all I needed was the hair and make up to go completely vintage. I did a 'pinup for a day' workshop shortly after, and since then I've dressed 40s style. The workshop taught me an easy way to do victory rolls, so I do them pretty much every day. I was setting my hair every week, but I ran out of patience for that...

I have a degree in fashion design, so I make a lot of my clothes myself. I've really enjoyed reading the 'what have you made' thread, and hopefully I'll manage to get some of my creations up there soon. I don't have a digital camera though, so it may be a while.

Oh, and hello Canberra and Sydney from Melbourne! Harpy - I'm moving to Canberra next year, maybe we'll be able to meet up!

I'm getting married in October, so I'm currently organising a late 30s Art Deco themed wedding. Loving every minute of it!

So pleased to be here :)

I was looking for a Worth & Worth Fedora, and stumbled across The Lounge.
It was love at first sight, then I found Magnoli's. I said to myself, I better rush out and get a ring.;) Chainsaw

Hello again!

Hi, I haven't been on here for a long time so I thought it best to say hi as a new lady. A couple of ladies on here may remember me :)
I am a 42 year old mum of 2. I like clothes from 30's onwards but also do 17th century reenactment so as you can imagine, I have quite a strange wardrobe :)
Nice to be on here again, lots of new stuff for me to read.:eusa_clap

Particularly don't remember how I found the Lounge, probably had to do with looking up something about my fedora. Nothing special, just a 5 year old Country Gentleman Black Wilton. Man do I love it.

After lurking for something like a year or so, I've finally decided to take the plunge. Especially after reading about all the vintage clothes. Methinks that I will try to gather a vintage wardrobe. We shall see.

Accidentally Vintage!

Hi Ladies,

I'm new around these parts. I've been reading for only the last two weeks or so. I'm learning to sew and happened upon the site in search of advice on how to make the infamous "Walkaway Dress."

Anyway, I've since found all sorts of wonderful information on things like girdles, stockings, and slips -- things I've found myself struggling to find. I grew up with my great grandma always running out to Gimbel's (where she was a shop girl for many years) to get these.

What's funny is that I never set out to be vintage or retro. I just thought these things were a part of dressing like a woman. I'm glad to have found a like-minded crew in all of you lovely, helpful ladies.

I think I may stay a while.

Greetings and salutations lovelies!

I found this site last week when I was looking for images of short haircuts. I was going in to donate my hair to Locks of Love and wanted to go really short after watching Amelie. My google-fu brought me here, to the hair-do thread and I was hooked. I found myself visiting on my lunch break at work and thinking about it during the days. I couldn't get away!

I'm a 27 (almost 28) year old working mother to one beautiful little girl, wife to an amazing stay-at-home dad. I work in the healthcare software industry and enjoy photography, horseback riding and reading.

I love the look of vintage, especially those that are able to put themselves together with thought and purpose. My husband now has longer hair than me and is feeling the 20's, while I'm more of a 30's/40's lover.

This community is so inspiring and I'm so glad I joined!

Hello lovely ladies!

I must say, you all look wonderful today and every day!

So inspiring....the whole lot of you.

Although I don't have the $$ to dress vintage, I love the look. The perfect suits with the shoes and handbags....love it!

Always keeping my eyes open for thrift finds...I wish I was the size I was in high school. I wore my grandma's clothing for our production of Grease. She was so tiny....I loved wearing her clothing.

Mrs Soup, I dont think most of us here have the money to look as fab as we would want to :) I know I sure dont.

Thrift stores still have great things and its the hunt that makes it all worth while.

Welcome!

Hello,

I'm also a new member from Buffalo, NY, but originally born and raised in NYC, to be returning there on July 1. I found this forum when surfing the net for images of traditional clothing of, I thought, a bygone era. I was happy to find this forum and other enthusiasts.

A suggestion to all of the new membersl, be sure to look over the Events section threads. With a little luck, you'll find an event listed that will allow you to get together with your fellow Loungers. If you come across an interesting event in your area that has a vintage theme consider posting it, you may just turn up some local members that would like to come.

One event of note coming up for May 14/15/16, 2010 is our annual get together in Southern California at that floating Art Deco jewel - the Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach Southern California. This event brings out the locals and often long distance travelers from across the US and even Europe. If you go to the steamer Trunk section you can search for Queen Mary and view some of the various years postings of pictures. If time and budget allows please join us, it's an open event so come for just an hour or come for the whole weekend. We hope to see you there.
