Hi there everyone!
My name is Courtney, and I just found out about this group a few days ago. I'm 35 years old, happily married and pursuing a PhD in history with a focus on Native American history of the Eastern US after spending ten years working for the Associated Press. I grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (Atomic City!) and moved to New Haven, CT in 2000. My father, who was much older than my mother, instilled a love for the 1930s and 1940s in me before his passing a while back. I've been married for six years to a wonderful man who "gets" my idiosyncracies and love for all things vintage. He and I own a small recording studio, which can be lots of fun if you don't let the workload get to you. Thank you all for having me here, and I hope to learn more from you all in the future.

Hello All!

New here, stumbled into the forum while looking for information on leather jackets. Decided to register for buy/sell/trade in the forum. I also have collected vintage watches and vintage guitars.

So I registered in the Lounge in 2008(!) but didn't really venture out of the Powder Room much, and then RL got in the way.

Life has evolved in a good way over the last several years, and I dropped back in a few months ago, but the ladies-only forums seem mostly empty these days. So I decided if I'm going to stick around, I'd better check out the co-ed options.:p

I grew up dirt poor in the 1950s and 60s. I started wearing vintage in college, when I discovered big city thrift shops and realized there was a vastly better world of fashion outside of Kmart and family hand-me-downs. I have developed a better appreciation for hand-me-downs over the last 40 years, but that's another story.

Once I started wearing vintage, I had to start collecting too, sometimes to enlighten a then-boyfriend and upgrade his style, and other times because I found amazing things that had to come home with me even if they didn't (and in some cases never would) fit me. Some of my collection supported another passion - community theater, where costumers are always in short supply. I started selling from my stash in 2001, during the gentler early days of eBay, moved to my own website plus Etsy about 7 years ago.

I still wear vintage regularly and still love the thrill of the hunt. I am much more discerning about what I buy anymore, especially if it's personal. I still have a stash to work through, and hope to focus more on that as I retire from my day job in 2018. Any "profit" generally goes for upgrading my own collections I'm afraid.

59 Lark , mike have been a member for years but life got too busy and I lost my way, and haven't posted much in 3 yrs , but a major life hurdle has made me think its time to reflect and ponder. I am 54 yrs old and about to find out what single life is about after 28 yrs of marriage. I will still have the store and the kids and the dogs and the horse to look after , its just the wife who is leaving . I have missed the music and the style of the golden era. I have wore a fedora for 30 years and listened to big band when I could , I own a 59 Studebaker lark, which I hardly drove this year , 4 times . so welcome me back and I hope to enjoy this forum again mike ie 59lark

Hey 59: Welcome back man. Glad you made it. Yeah, tough times. You’ll make it man, just keep lookin up and you’ll be surprised how directed and renewed you and your children will be. Keep coming back man. Lotta good here. Be well. Bowen

Hey all...first time poster, long time (ok two years or so) lurker. Started my leather collection a couple years ago and am up to 4 jackets. One Schott, one Golden Bear, one Aero, and one Hugo Boss (does that one count?). I have another one lined up and on the way.

I'm also kind of obsessed with selvedge denim and boots, and have quite the collection of those built up.

Anyway there is a ton of good stuff and knowledge here, looking forward to participating in the forum.

Not really new but been away for tooooo loong it seems. Need to read in to see what I missed and what changed.
Currently I still live in Germany, still like the Golden Age more than ever and am looking still for inspiration and funny and interesting things, discussions of our favorite era with style and art.

So hope we all have a swell time together. Wish you a great night or day, depending on which side of the world you are. And never forget somewhere on this planet it is still time for good whiskey, a good cigar, some swell 40s swing and story of Chandler or Hammett.

Hey everyone,

My name is Eamon, and I hail from Singapore. I've been a longtime lurker of this forum, Ask Andy, Styleforum, and the various Reddit men's fashion subs. I work as a customer service rep for a software developer, my job taking me down to financial districts and educational institutes to meet clients face to face. As such, my professional appearance is very important to me. I would describe my style as classic 1940s to early 50s, with a preference for windowpane sport coats and leather flight jackets. I am 28 years old this year (practically a whelp around here) so I hope all you ladies and gents can bear with my millennial insolence. Once again, I would like to thank you for welcoming the noobs aboard, and I'll see you around.
