Hi there!

This is my 3rd post, so I am very new. My name is Michelle, and I'm 21 years old. I am going to be a senior at Longwood University, and I am majoring in Theatre Performance. In a nutshell, I don't belong in this decade at all. I'm sure most of you can identify with me. :)

I found this site because I was looking at garter flasks, and I absolutely love it here.

If anyone knows any good cocktail recipes, or any places that sell vintage dresses, please let me know!

Greetings

I'm afraid to say, I'm a lurker. I started reading the forum about 5 months ago, but only joined up about a month ago. It's been great seeing everyone's passion and in the process learning a lot about hats from the posts on here.

I started wearing hats early 2009 and started with a beige paper hat from Target. Then I went and bought a brown straw hat.

Not content with the straws, I purchased a mid-grey Akubra Stylemaster and like yourselves agonised over when the delivery truck would come. Once I'd gotten over the initial awkwardness at wearing this hat, I bought a Bailey Madison in Cordova (brown).

So far, have been happy with all the hats I've bought so far (considering the fur felts have been internet purchases) and have finally decided that for my black hat (I wanted hats in the three basic colours of grey, brown and black) I was going to purchase an Akubra Federation IV!

So I just wanted to say hi. I am here and will be happily reading and hopefully adding my two cents when I feel I can add to a discussion.

Cheers

Lurker here, just got approved. I'm just about to turn 19. Live in Sydney, and although I'm fan of the Victorian aesthetic, I still appreciate almost anything up to the 50's. I sort of feel like I was born in the wrong century, so I'm guessing it's okay to dabble in the golden era by comparison. ;)

I'm fond of my Irish whiskey, (the drinking age is 18 here) and I enjoy smoking the occasional cigarillo. Sadly I have no brimmed hat - I do have a flat cap and plan on getting more. Hopefully you folks can help me out with a brimmed hat. I'm a big fan of blades, and want to start shaving with a straight razor.

I'm always craving any chance to get myself into some sort of adventure, and I've travelled much of Oceania and the south-east of Asia.

Looking forward to your company, ladies and gentlemen!

Hello Sigma 010 and welcome! For help with brimmed hat ideas, you really need to spend time on the "What hat are you wearing today?" thread. The gents there are all are great enablers for new and vintage hats...

Hey everyone, I'm Michelle. I've been on the forum off and on for the past year or so and finally decided to join.

I first found the forum when I was doing research for a pin up calendar that I was putting together as a fundraiser for Operation Hug-A-Hero. http://www.cafepress.com/rubypress/6167021 We pulled it off and have raised over $200 so far... and 2010 is coming along nicely.

My Grandma in 1938 - I just got this picture this past weekend, and funny enough, it is my exact haircut (which I got last year for the calendar)

I've taken a bunch of swing dance classes in the past but haven't been dancing in about four years unfortunately. I love it though, and keep saying "I should go out dancing" and then never actually go.

I've been (quite happily) drafted to help out with the USO event at the Geneseo Air show, so now I'm back and decided that I should be active.

New Here

Hello all,

I'm Jeff, and I'm new here. I've been looking around for the last few days, and this seems like the home for me. I can't believe there are actually people out there like me!

A brief background: I'm 29 and live in Northern California with my wife. One of my current dreams is to own a classic diner. Coincidentally, we have one for sale here in my town that had been owned by the same family since the 40's. I've found a few good threads on here about diners, but if anyone has any suggestions on where I could learn more about vintage diners, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks!

Hi ladies!
Oh! My first post here after being a lurker for a REALLY long time! You can call me Pixie! I am 22 years old and a Senior in college working on a degree in History. I'm from a small town in Central New York (Speedies anyone? Ten bucks to any of you who gets that!)
I've always been told I look like a little "flapper girl". While I see it in my face, my measurments tell me otherwise (bit more 1950's in that department)[huh] .
Anyway - going to stop rambling now. I just wanted to say Hi to all of you!

Pixie

Hey ya'll. I'm new here. Finally got myself a acceptable email address so now I can finally meet you all. My name is Alyse. I'm a 26 yr old gal from Idaho and am finishing up a degree in metalsmithing here at the state university. I am a bicycle and upright bass fanatic. I collect old western swing albums and sew vintage reproductions on my free time. I live with my boyfriend of 10 years (no we aren't getting married) 2 dogs, a bearded dragon, a rat and a giant plecostomus.
I hope to get to know many of you beautiful ladies very soon!

I found this site last week looking for vintage makeup tips. It’s a great site and like many others have said, I’m now hooked. My name is Angie and I’m 32 and live near Austin, Tx. My fave era’s are the 20s and 30s but overall my fave stuff (music, movies, etc…) stretch from the 1910s-1960s. If you couldn’t guess from my screen name, I’m a huuuuuge Gary Cooper fan. Actually, huuuuge is an understatement – ha! About a year ago I got to meet his only child (daughter Maria) at a lecture she was giving about him in New York and got her to sign the book she wrote about him and I also got to chat with her alone for a few minutes about her dad. I was friends with the guy moderating the lecture and he arranged it. It was so surreal and wonderful. Clara Bow is my next fave. They sure don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

Hi y'all. I can't count how many times i've accidentally ended up here while looking for info online in the past couple years. So this weekend i finally decided i just needed to join already!

I'm an Arkansas girl (now), living with my girlfriend in our "new" post-war house. The house has certainly expanded my vintage interests into, perhaps, much more mundane - but equally fun! - areas.

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Holly Ann and I was born in the wrong era! I have always had an affinity for vintage, even when I was a little girl. While other girls were playing with barbie, I was dressing up as a glam old movie star and play acting. I grew up watching the old silent films and the black and whites on T.V it was all my grandmother and mother watch and she still does. I'm also a huge fan of pin ups.

I just recently started working on my hair, and trying out makeup and wardrobe changes.

A little about me, I'm 25, seperated, and self employed. I'm a student at the local community college, but may be transferring to chase my dream of becoming a cosmetologist.

I love anything vintage from clothing to music. I found FL while looking for vintage makeup tips and boy did I find so much more! Glad to be here!!

I quite accidently stumbled across this place while looking for a new fedora.
What an unexpected surprise!

I had no idea there were so many people interested in this style of not only clothing, but everything from corrective lenses to home furnishings!

I've been reading posts and looking at pictures for several hours a day for the past three days, and loved every minute of it all. While not quite on par with many of you, I do enjoy dressing in stylish clothing that is not exactly in style,....like pants with cuffs, shortsleeved silk shirts and a panama hat accented with a tank watch and a leather band. For 50 some-odd years I tried my best to fit in with everyone else, refusing to wear anything that was outside of the current fashion craze, but got tired of it a few years ago, only to discover the fact that most people appreaciate a different "flair".

Anyhow,....I look forward to learning anything I can from everyone here.

Just joined!

Hello, all!

I just signed up a few days ago, and my account was activated today.

How to start? My name is Diana, and I'm a vintage addict... No, wait! Not that kind of club. ;)

All my life, I've felt rather awkwardly out-of-step with contemporary culture. I was born in the early 80s, but grew up listening to jazz and swing, and I'd say that compromises about 90% of what I listen to today. Only a relatively small portion of the clothes that I wear every day are actually vintage, but every choice I make from clothing to hair and make-up reflects a heavy vintage influence.

My favorite decade is the 1940s, though I've found many things to love about the 20s, 30s, and 50s! I'm a sucker for old movies, especially ones with dancing scenes.

I started getting interested in vintage dances (first swing and lindy hop, then charleston, balboa, and blues dancing) a little over ten years ago after obsessively watching, rewinding, and rewatching Swing Kids and trying to imitate the moves with my friends. Yeah, we were dorks. Though I've taken several breaks from dancing over the years, I keep coming back for more!

Looking forward to getting to know some of you! If you want to know more about me, feel free to ask. Also check out my vintage/vi fashion/beauty blog, Curve-Hugger!

:cheers1:

Cheers, ladies!
