New horsehide D-pocket with improvements after good advice from forum

Hello to all and happy hollidays!

Many of you were kind enough to offer me good advice on improvements that I could make to my D-pocket design so I just thought I'd share a few pics with you.

1. The cinch belt has been changed to avoid "dangling ends"
2. Throat latch added in order to button up the collar and keep it from flapping when fully zipped
3. Facings on the inside bottom of the jacket for wear
4. Slightly smaller collar
5. Cotton lining
6. Horsehide leather
7. Beta Website launched (pegasusjackets.com)

Let me know what you think:

I like the placement of your sleeve zippers on the upward (frontal) facing of the wrist/forearm.

You need snaps on the collar points. If the collar is turned up and secured with the throat latch, it would interfere with a full face helmet. Unless the rider believes he is so cool and doesn't wear a helmet.

Good luck with it!

I have to say, I see more D-pocket jackets than probably 99.999 percent of peeps in the world and that is SERIOUSLY one of the coolest D-pockets I've ever seen. One word--WOW!!! You did some marvelous things to that sucker...far too many to enumerate here, but I like each and every one of 'em!

The only improvement I can think of is for you to have used either Conmar or Talon zippers for the jacket, but besides that, it's wonderful! I love it that it's a D-pocket meets (almost) a Half Belt style jacket!

What is the weight of the horsehide that you used? Is it stiff like Horween horsehide?

A very interesting combination of classic design elements... I like it! Distinctive without going over-board... and obviously an original design, not a sloppy imitation of a vintage jacket. I like the trim cut and fit, too. Well done, sir.

Hi Coffee,

Thanks for the comment and the tip! I agree that collar snaps would be more functional and had considered this at one point. However, I think they wouldn't really go with the style. It would make the jacket go towards a "perfecto" direction that I wanted to avoid.

Judging from your ID I've got a café racer design that you may also like ;-)

Thanks for the kind words Mojo! Much appreciated.

The weight of the horsehide is 3.5oz. Its some of the best horsehide I've ever seen. It gets softer and grainy with very little wear. It is not overly stiff like some of the jackets I've had in the past (and fully agree that some of the Horween product is overly stiff).

PJ

By the way Moj,

Why is it that you've seen so many D-pockets anyway?

Hi Snark,

Thanks for the comments. I remember that you had commented the previous prototype. I agree that its always better to make an original rather than a sloppy copy. Not to say that there are alot of good companies out there making replicas but its just not my cup of tea.

Speaking of which, congrats the Trojan. It looks like it fits very well.

Pegasus Single Cinch Cafe Racer

Lovely jacket. I'd just lose one of those cinch straps off each side to be picky.

Hi Jon Z,

Got it. Thanks for the feedback. I'd be happy to offer that one as a custom option since its easy to do:) With a halfbelt I could definitely see doing a single cinch but IMHO the dual cinches work well with the full kidney panel.

Otherwise, here's my latest café racer with a single cinch and a small kidney panel. Let me know what you think:

Pulled the trigger on the D-pocket on ebay, I'm been impressed with the quality of the pics and I hope the D-pocket will be as good in person...I also asked some clarification on the difference between the standard D model and the S variant, as well as some small modifications (if they're viable).

Now, I just have to find room in the wardrobe for another jacket...hard to do, too many Aeros there... :S
