my understanding has always been that there's oilpull A2 HH and oilpull FQHH which is the heavier armour type stuff. If you go on the site now I assume you can still order an oilpull A2 - and obviously that doesn't come in FQHH

Literally quotation:

"Hello Amanda!

Just two more questions:

1. Am I right that there is only one Oilpull and this is a Front Quarter Hide?"

(...)

Answer:

"There is only one oil pull and its mid weight horsehidem it isn’t f/q horsehide."

(unquote)

That'll be the case then - at least at time of enquiry. They are limited by what the tannery has for sale, which is why they can't do a jacket in black goatskin.

I think the jacket looks awesome, length and all. Yes, it's a tad short, but it looks good that way, especially if you wear your shirts out most of the time. Also, since you ordered again, you should probably have known how long to order, so it wouldn't really be Aero's fault, would it? Anyhow, my two cents is that the jacket hide is really fantastic. Personally, i think the really long highwayman jackets that are extra roomy don't look as a good as a sleek one like you have.

Your sleeves are shorter than many folks like here on The Lounge. I think, technically speaking, that sleeves look better when the shirt cuffs are a little bit longer and stick out just a little beyond the jacket sleeves. Jackets are certainly more comfortable to wear that way! I would think that storm cuffs might be a bit warm in California, but up north you probably have plenty of cool days. I also thought your old oil pull jacket looked quite good, but this one looks even better. Ya done good!

Posted in the wrong thread. Here is my answer:

Good question. I chose to keep my jacket. Still, I thought long and hard about it, and I valued the variety of opinions raised. Initially, I had ordered a 26" length that came back as 25". Still, I kept it anyway. I like it the way it is.

I believed he ordered it at 24" and it came in at 23".

I like Aero. Great company. Did Old Crow get a shorter length, too? I did not see that part of his thread. Anyhow, yes, I ordered a 26" back and got a 25". Aero offered to redo, and I decided I would keep it.

Here you are:

21” PIT TO PIT
24” BACK LENGTH
17” SHOULDERS
26” SLEEVES

Of note the length ended up almost an inch short of my requested 24". I think at this length it is probably closer to how it should fit. I have only adorned the jacket (because of both lack of need and I'm a bit leery of the shorter length) for these photographs, so I need some opinions on the length.

For reference, here is the first one

This jacket looks great on you. I think it all depends on what style of trousers (jeans) you are wearing.

Cheers,
Andy

[huh] Well, he is tall and slim - no reason to wear a too short jacket, which disproportions his frame.

They must have changed the oilpull again.
I got samples from the "new" oilpull and its atleast as thick as the FQHH.

The hides differs against themselves also. My FQHH jacket is kinda thin, and the hide is almost flimsy in the front. The "new" oilpull sample is definately thicker then this jacket.

I think getting samples from the hides that will be used is a good idea.

Inevitably one hide will differ from another, even when from the same cut of the animals and tanned by the same process. No two horses are quite alike. Same as if you and I were both skinned and our hides tanned - there'd be a difference or two (now there'd be an interesting thing - a hide with a tattoo on it....).

Interesting, but also inconsistent with the facts! MY oilpull (or what I got as "oilpull") is much thinner than the hide my Highwayman is made from, let me say about 40% thinner.

i think edward and others are just suggesting that jackets can be "oil pull fqhh" and still be quite different - be in thickness, texture, etc. which i think are quite consistent with the facts that despite similar tanning process, that animals/hides are all different... and what we love about our jackets are that they are unique.

and i think you've made it clear you like long coats both on yourself and others, but if oldcrow likes his new highwayman, let's be happy for him. i certainly am.

now back to breaking in my own highwayman -- did yardwork in mine yesterday and will proceed to toss it on the floor with my other jackets! :)

I got a new Cafe Racer in the new oil pull. the leather looks the same as oldcrow´s. the jacket is a little bit ligther than a hfqhh jacket, but the thickness is the same. the invoice says: Cafe Racer in mid weight horse.

my suggestion: the oil pull is not so fence as the hfqhh, so it is not so heavy.

just my two cents....

Of course you are right - everybody should get what makes him happy.

I for myself don't like to wear a jacket that looks a little bit like the jackets of the H&M-girlies :)

I like the H&M girlies and their tight clothes. They do not have to hide their nice bodies in a tent.

For the A2's, ordered in oilpull or heavy front quarter, Aero uses thinner hides than for a Highwayman or others. My 38-1711 is hfqhh is thinner than the hfqhh of my halfbelt and the oilpull of my Cafe Racer.
