New hat from Vintage Silhouettes

Hi all,

Here is the hat that Matt Deckard saw at the Queen Mary over the weekend:

It is a custom hat that I ordered from Art. I am very, very happy with the hat, and it has become an instant favourite!

For a long time I wanted a wide-brimmed '40s fedora, like the ones worn in "Laura" and "The Naked City", however I couldn't find one in the right size or colour. I sent a few pics to Art and he worked his magic.

The felt is supple and smooth, yet holds its shape perfectly. It fits like a glove, thanks to Art's conformer.

The hat itself is light enough to be worn in the warm LA sunshine, yet heavy enough to keep my head warm over here in the chilly London autumn.

The highlight of this wonderful "piece of Art" is the bow - Art added a thin splash of colour that sets it apart from all my other hats, vintage or otherwise.

Not only do you get a great hat when you order from Art, but top-notch service as well. I got word from Art that the hat was ready to be shipped just as I was leaving for the QM event. Art went out of his way to telephone the Queen Mary staff to ask if they would accept packages for guests, then sent it so it would be waiting for me upon arrival. :eusa_clap

Wow, what a terrific fedora (and tie, BTW)! You certainly look the part of the 40s private-eye, like the hat was made for you and only you -- which it was.

Owning many VS custom hats, each of them is extra special and each day I find a different one the pick of the litter. The excitement of a new one arriving is even more exciting than the last, and I hope you get to enjoy many of them.

In a world where hassle seems to be the theme of daily life and mediocrity seems to be the peak too many people strive for, it is mighty fine to be able to speak with Art, no hassles, no bulls--t, just dealing with a man who does his job as best as anyone can and for plunking down some cash, you will soon have one of his creations on your own head.

I had the chance to examine that hat in person. It is a great fedora! Art has really improved. It is far superior to the one he made me early this year. Everything about it is better. In fact....I have Art sending me felt samples. Another lid will be in the works shortly.

I just recieved an email from Art saying that mine will ship tomorrow, I can't wait for it to arrive. I wonder though if you might recall the color of the felt he used on yours, it really looks great.

It is the "steel" felt. Art was nice enough to send me a few samples, and "steel" fit the bill.

I'm now pouring over pictures trying to think of the next design to send off to Art... of course, only after it has been cleared with the "Finance Minister"!

Wow, that's another beauty. Everything about it is noir. You might have knocked it off of Charles Mcgraw's head (but then you wouldn't be standing).

I like the juxtaposition of you in wintry grey and the green of the palm trees.
