New hat - and Susquehana Hat Co. enquiry

Got a great deal on a brown fur felt fedora today in London - hat had been crushed and I paid only £40 - with steaming it's great! My question is, where can I find other hats from this company? The style and soft fur felt are perfect!

It's a "Mason" fedora by the Susquehana Hat Co. but I can't find any online sources for this company or its hats. Any advice welcomed?

My advice is to try the Search feature. If you use the
Advanced Search and search the Hats section, you'll
see three threads in addition to yours. You'll see member
"Anthony Jordan" has the same hat and that the name
derives from an Abbott and Costello routine.

There are mounds of information here, cleverly hidden
by the tendency of forum software to emphasize the new
and bury the old.

Tom; don't know where you are in Wales, but if you're anywhere close to the southern border, it might be worth your while to visit Bath. Yesterday I bought a new silver grey Susquehana Mason for £75 from http://www.yell.com/listings/DoFindListings/4237435/The-British-Hatter/Hat-Shops-and-Milliners and I love it to bits already. Just like the one my dad wore in the 50's. Anytime you plan on coming to Bath, mail me and I'll take you to the shop.

I only signed up to the Fedora Lounge this evening so I'm still getting it together, but I hope to start a thread on the psychology behind men wearing hats, possibly planning a video incorporating some of the sellers and some of the wearers. Just need a win on the lottery to free my time, heheheh.

As this is my first post too, thanks an a tip o' the hat to MK and the bartenders for a thoroughly cool site. ...fades to String of Pearls.....

Nipper, from another newbie welcome to the forum, and good luck on the lottery so as to further your Fedora Lounge agenda. Who can explain the obsessive admiration we have for hats?

Nipper, great spot! Am a regular visitor to Bath and try to get there a couple of times a year. Lunch in the Pump Room is part of the tradition with Mrs Tom! I'll let you know when we're next there.
Cheers
Tom

I was at the Shrewsbury Show today (to help my father with his stump removal business which he exhibited) and I came across a hat stand selling different types of hats from women's hats to panamas. I was only interested in the fur felt fedoras of course of which they had quite a few in different colours all made by the Susquehana Hat Company. I spoke to the owner and he was very knowledgable on different hatmakers and said that Susquehana make hats specially for him and they are named after the sketch as the founder was fond of Abbot and Costello.

The stand owner's website is www.johnhalifax.co.uk though it is currently not working.

As for quality, his hats seem quite good. Smooth and some of his newer stock claim to be waterproof. The sweatbands are not as bad as some modern sweatbands. The linings are glued in as to be expected but relatively well. The ribbons have rather obvious stitching but it appears to be well placed so that the ribbon will not move.

The prices are about £60 or so which is reasonable to a good fur felt IMO so I may buy one tomorrow as the weight seems to be better suited for summer than my Stetson Chatham.

Edit: I think I am talking about the same hat company as the original poster as it said Mason in the sweatband.

Absolutely I was very tempted by a burgundy fedora at £75 but managed to put it down and buy a linen cap for Summer wear instead.
Here it is Herald and Heart Rye
