Does Monarch or Sheeley have a website? I have looked in the past for Monarch and could never really find anything.

Ian, could you tell please - how Freewheelers' deerskin feels in comparison with their Shinki HH in a matter of comfort, handling, the whole feeling of the leather etc.? Which hide do you like most: Shinki HH or deerskin (or goatskin from Dave)?
P.S. All your jackets look absolutely fantastic!

Thanks Tony, the FW Shinki HH is medium weight and very soft and flexible. I’m generally not a great fan of HH, but this is the best that I’ve seen.
Both the FW deer and French goat are equally plush (the deer is more dense and spongy - certainly heavier, like steer in weight).
These are two very different jackets: the Journeyman is a colder weather coat with knitted storm cuffs, and this shorter Monarch more suited to slightly higher temperatures.
This goat and the deer have a very similar ‘hand’, the goatskin is like a half weight deerskin.
I guess that the goat is the most practical: lower weight, higher tensile strength, great abrasion resistance (per unit area). I’m happy to keep both, but if I had to choose then I’d probably go for the goat as it’s wearable over in wider range of weather/temperatures.

Looking at Monarch jackets is a way to do it :)

:p Well now that I know where to look, I can check some more out. I have seen a few posted here over the last little while also.

I am kind of liking the button up work coat style the OP posted to kick this thread off.

Many thanks Ian for such detailed and very informative reply!

I contacted him about a prewar half belt yesterday. Thanks everyone for the tips on how to contact him through ebay. The prewar jacket has the cut I want with a higher and smaller armhole than his later models.

Sounds promising and I think a Monarch will be in the cards for a fall of 2019 purchase. Will be a button front version.

Mmm, sounds tasty!) It's going to be delicious! Whad hide have you chosen finally?

No clue yet. I don't want to make any hasty decisions so I am taking my time with this one. All I know is the back will be a 3-panel action back and the front will be a button up with a single zipped chest pocket.

I can post a pic of the back later tonight, that Dave sent me.

That is as far as I got. I'll order it in June for an October delivery.

It’s more of a statement than I wanted (in terms of colour and design), but Dave did a very fine job with that one.
