Hi All,
I thought I would post a general announcement that one of my fav online retailers, YOOX.com, is now offering Borsalinos at "discounted" prices. Their market is to sell past-season, high-end, designer goods from all over Europe on their global website. It's catch as catch can, but if you are patient, the prices continue to drop as time passes. Being a Euro XXXL (46L), I have snagged some great stuff after it's been in my "Dream Box" for a couple of months. Oh, and they have very fast service and a decent return policy, except at the last discount cycle, where you pay a severely discounted "FINAL SALE" price.

FYI, I wrote to them (they are an Italian firm with a trans-shipping point and offices in NYC) and alerted them that they were showing UK sizes in inches on the US site. They responded and thanked me for the description tip and forwarded the info to Italian headquarters.

That may be, but the name "Borsaliono" at the least past their corporate sale, only equates to high price
rather than even a medium level of quality.

That's what happens when the brand is more highly regarded than the product.

I just checked this site out and if those are discounted I would hate to see retail. Just awful prices

If you poke around on YOOX, you'll see that their policy is to mark down retail prices by 50%--for starters, and thereafter, lower. I guess that's true, but considering the Italian fashion market has made Nieman Marcus look downright stingy over the past few (400%+) years, I'd guess that half off of 400% markup is still fairly fatuous. Caveat Emptor.

It's hard to compare the prices since I couldn't find any model names, but the pricing looks to be in the same area as buying from Bencraft.

It is interesting how Borsalino is trying to make the most of their branding though - I remember reading somewhere that Borso is really sought after among the young and trendy in Japan. Or was that last year?

There is an olde saw:

"The quality remains long after the price is forgotten."

With the Borsalino Case:

Brand name, high price, and lack of quality remain, never to be forgotten.

Actually, there is a whole line of accessories (bags, ties, etc.) some of which are offered on YOOX. I bought a yellow tie with an all-over hats pattern last year that is handsome and well made. If you search on Borso, you'll get the whole range. FWIW, there was one hat that I really liked, but it was gone the first night of their line announcement. OTOH, it may turn up again if somebody bought it based on the ENGLISH inches sizing.
