New Bond Film - Quantum Of Solace

I found it a good action movie, but not as involving as 'casino', the villains weren't menacing enough, gemma artertons character seemed to serve no real purpose, the slow-mo shoot-out at the opera seemed to be a lame Godfather rip-off and as for the theme 'song', well, let's not go there. on the plus side olga kurylenko looked impossibly gorgeous throughout and the locations weren't bad either. it's a good film but doesn't match craigs first outing- and therein lies the problem: Casino Royale was just too damn good!

I can't believe no one mentioned that the scenes set in Chile. EVERYONE wore hats! Fedora, trilby, homburg, derby...they love their lids down south.

The desert scenes? It was the last third of the movie? You sure you weren't at "Twilight"? Were there vampires in the movie you saw?

Yes, Strawberry Fields was only there to pay homage, to Goldfinger. That, and the character "Nicole," the French girl in Never Say Never Again. If you're a female in a Bond movie, and they don't bother to give you a last name, it's kind of like being given a red shirt, as a Star Trek extra.

It's been so long since I've read the books. I'm sure there is a tie in to a Fleming character.

Fields, no first name given until the end credits, was not a tie-in to a Fleming character but more a tie-into the idea of the "sacrificial lamb" you see in all Bond films. It is a beautiful woman who Bond sleeps with and who winds up dead. Solange was the sacrificial lamb in Casino Royale. A difference though is it finally sinks into Bond that his actions have unexpected consequences. Compare that to say Roger Moore's Bond who really didn't even seem to notice.

(pun intended), i'm a big fan of these too- are any other loungers? and if so, have you noticed the old fashions and vehicles in all their films? e.g: Austin A40 van, 1950's Triumph twin cylinder motorcycle with Steib sidecar? it struck me that their movies take place in no particular era- it could be the present day, it could be the 50's....

Oh, I LOVE Wallace and Gromit! Discovered them in the 90's when they played some of the short films on PBS. Been a huge fan ever since. Can't wait for the next Wallace and Gromit movie to come out.

Saw it tonight and rather enjoyed it. I had very low expectations. It was, in my opinion, heavily influenced by the Bourne franchise, quick moving enough that you didn't have time to consider how silly it really was, and highly stylistic, which I enjoy. Furthermore, it had that sort of unsatisfying plot resolution that many of the books had.

I must say, that was the most unsafe hotel ever constructed in the world!

Glad you liked it, Hemingway. I've watched it a few times now and I must say, it's better than I originally thought. I caught a lot more of the characterization and how Bond came full circle the second time I watched it.

I thought the Bolivian scenes dragged it down a bit. I would have liked something a bit more glamorous. I thought the European scenes were better.

Also, I was disappointed that the name of the organization was Quantum, though I know they need to tie it in. I would have been very pleased had it been Spectre!

Great villain, perfect casting, amazing face. I want to see more of him.

On a parallel note, what ever happened to big fat impressive well-tailored villains? Like Auric Goldfinger or the one in Maltese Falcon? Big fat very confident shrewd highly cultured (i.e. not anyone Jack Black could play) types? That niche needs some filling again.
