New Akubra Fed IV - need advice for diamond bash

I just picked up my new Federation IV today, and I am excited to put in the shape. I would like to put in a diamond crease similar to the photos. These photos were from a forum member, I can’t find the original poster, but this is the shape I am generally looking for.

My question is – what would you recommend for the front pinch height and also for the height of the back pinch. And is there a height recommendation for the two side creases on the diamond shape?

I ended up going with what I felt looked like the right height… I’m pretty pleased with it! Especially since this is the first I have ever bashed… I’m amazed how sturdy this felt is!

Thank you for the feedback!! I was honestly surprised at how good it turned out, being my first time bashing a hat. Of course, I’ve been watching and learning here on the forum, so it felt almost like I had done it before.

That looks great! I don’t own a Fed IV but with vintage hats my typical bash is a diamond or variation around 4 1/4 in front and 3 3/4 in back. For me that is very classic looking but perhaps not as tall as others here wear.

Nice. Hatsdirect have reserved me a 57 DLX in Moonstone, due February; I think I'm going to go with a diamond on that one.

Yep, those are mine, posted in general response to this thread. I used photos of all three because they each came out a little different from the others due to my minimal years' experience with shaping hats. I like them, and still wear them when I can, but I really wish Akubra would create a hat with the Fed's straight sided crown and a consistent brim width of 2-1/2 inches. Doubt I'll see that in my lifetime, so I guess I'll have to keep wearing lesser quality wool Pork Pies.
