New Aero...something different

Contemplating the next Aero. I have a black Highwayman, two Teamsters in Brown FQHH and Sean Vicenza, and a beautifully broken in brown FQHH 30's half belt. I'd like the next one to be something different. thinking of a Wayfarer or Bootlegger, in Cordovan Steer or FQHH.

Experience with either/both, fit, regrets, comments...

The Wayfarer is kind of interesting. It would look great in cordovan.

Bootlegger is a belt length and quite boxy fit, runs big.

Wayfarer is slimmer, longer style and should run more true to size.

I wouldn't call the Bootlegger boxy per say. It has more taper to the waist than the typical HB patterns and can be made even more so with a size drop between chest and waist.

sadly these both left my possession but the steer softens up at a much quicker pace than FQHH...

The Bootlegger is based on the 50s halfbelt pattern, so it'll be roomier than a 30s HB, but much more tapered than a Highwayman. IT's a very flattering fit in the right size.

Personally, given OP's existing herd, I might be tempted towards something with buttons, perhaps an Aeromarine, which would look excellent in a cordovan colour.

My vote is for the Bootlegger in Cordovan. I have one and on mine I eliminated the epaulets and had them use the Teamster back for a bit of additional mobility. Mine is FQHH and it softened up pretty quickly. In my opinion the Bootlegger is one of Aero’s coolest designs and it gets the most comments and compliments out of all of the leather jackets I own. I do not find it to be especially loose or boxy. It does have a nice taper to the waist as Ton mentioned.

I don't want to dispute any of the esteemed bootlegger experts here, but I think that if one takes the size that matches their chest measurement, the fit is closer to this:

I have a 50" chest and I would take size 46 or 48 for better fit.

Agreed, definitely size down 1-2 sizes from your actual measurement with a Bootlegger. It's a great design though.

Absolutely, I have a 46" chest and wore a size 40" which had a p2p of about 24" so numerically sizing down for sure. I would be swimming in a 46" in the BL pattern.

You have enough leather jackets to feed an army. I'd instead opt for one of their revamped B-10s or maybe something in their suede leather.

STF I think are the key letters here which make a world of difference fit wise.

I find Aero sizing difficult to understand and the fact that they don’t keep standard measurements across all sizes for a certain model a bit unsatisfactory from a customer experience perspective. My last order (Grizzly) went well only because I had another Aero that I knew fit otherwise I would have ended up buying a size too large.
