I really do think that that is a lot of money for a little strip of leather.

I understand that extra pockets and double lining and all that can cost extra, but this is just to prevent the jacket from wearing. All my jackets have always had the hardest wear around the waist and that strip should imho be there as standard.


How is the policy of fixing things on a jacket? I dont know the deal here.
Do they reline the jacket for free if its destroyd?

Where is the line drawn?

Taking and processing the order for the little strip. Measuring the little strip. Cutting the little strip. Sewing and finishing the little strip.

Materials+time+manpower=money.

Yes, but as I asked; will they replace damaged lining? If they do at no cost, then adding the strip would be beneficial to them as well.

I understand that everything cost money.
I work in a kitchen and everyone think they can have food for free.
Extra bread, extra cheese, extra aioli, extra service, extra sauce and so on.

Some things we give for free, some things we charge.

I personaly just didnt think that the strip should cost as much as £50
A pocket for £50 sounds resonable.

Material is almost a no cost if the strip is just in the back.
(depends if one orders the pristine leather ofcourse but i really think most will settle for anything similar to the outer color)
The ordering is made in the final order of the jacket and Amanda
writes it down with everything else and give it to the jacket maker
this is really no cost.
The cost I see is the time measuring/obtaining and putting the strip there.

So, I've exchanged a few emails with Amanda.
She said to go ahead and send them the jacket in spring and they'll sew on the leather strip.
I'm assuming she won't charge me for it because when I ordered it, Mark told me I wouldn't be charged for it.
We'll see.
BTW, the jacket is breaking in nicely.
Really starting to conform to my body.
It's weird, when I put it on first thing in the morning, it's stiff as a board.
But 5 minutes after wearing, it gets all soft and buttery.

That sounds okay. £50 seems a bit excessive for a small alteration. The jacket is fab. I have the same lining in mine - it does go nicely with the brown leather. I guess these jackets would be a little more costly than mass produced ones - only fair.

Will says no!

Spoke to will today and he says he's charging the 50 pounds in the hope that people will stop asking for it because he thinks the affect it has on the bottom of the jacket is horrible. He insists cord is better and advised me to go for 5 inches. I'm taking his advise. still in the decision process regarding which Tartan to have.. down to 9 out of the 500 on the site.. Will also told me the Common Tartan is no longer available... shame. But there are some others that i have found that look even better to my eyes!

Satin?, but it might not breath so maybe cotton is cooler?

Have you considered a perforated leather jacket with mesh nylon lining? Vanson has quite a few motorcycle jackets with this style; I'm sure Aero may be able to do the same thing.

Edit: that leather strip seems like a good idea. Wish I'd thought of that when I ordered my Highwayman. No biggie, if I wear out the alpaca lining on mine I'll get it installed when I return to factory for repair.

I would bet that "cord" is a heavy corduroy that was present on many vintage utility and MC jackets in the past.

Hmm. Looks kinda cool, but Im really in no need of a super ventilated
jacket, I just want the least warm lining. In the full summer
you cant wear anything else then a tshirt here so.

Ill ask Aero if they have the mesh nylon. Looks very nice.
Not so vintage tho, but sweet.

I already ordered the jacket from Aero but havent made final specs.
(waiting for samples)

I'm gonna have that done when I send the jacket back.
I do like the look of the courderoy they put in my pockets.
I bet it'll drape better than leather too, plus feel less binding at the waist.

I just ordered my Hercules with cotton drill lining and satin ("sateen")
in the sleeves. That's what I have had for ~15 years in my Johnson
Leathers jacket and it gives the best of both worlds- coolness (temperature-
wise) of the cotton and the ease of slipping one's arms into satin.

I have a Vanson ProPerf Force with the mesh lining. I can take pics for you if you'd like.

I agree, it is not vintage at all. But when you're riding your motorcycle in the heat of summer, it is much more comfortable than standard rayon or nylon.
