New Aero A2 38-1711-P Fit

Hello Everyone,

I recently had an aero a2 with custom measurements made and it arrived about a bit ago. It seems to fit a bit tight in the arms and I’m curious as to if that’s just where it’s a stiff leather and it needs to break in or if I gave slightly off measurements. And in general how does the fit look on me? Thanks to anyone who replies.

This is the fit unzipped:

Nice jacket. Looks like it might be one size too small …makes knits stand out too much …

It does look about a half size to full size off (depending on how fitted you wanted). What kind of leather? It might open up some if it's a softer leather, but if you could lose about 5lbs, that'll be a sweet fit. It's hard to get a fitted look in an A2. you're just a tad on the wrong side of it, but definitely close.

I do plan on losing a few pounds so I’m hoping the body will loosen a bit. I ordered it in the seal jerky horsehide, and I’ve heard that’s a stiff hide but it loosens up (eventually) if I’ve read correctly.

It is a tad too snug for my liking. If you do lose a few pounds, it should fit well. I have found that I switched one size for every 10-12 lbs I dropped. (Went from 180 to 155 and a size 40 to a size 36.)

Personally, I like my A-2s a tad longer in the body so I don‘t have to always wear vintage trousers with them but that‘s highly subjective and a lot of people would probably argue the length is spot on perfect.

I think the feeling of tightness in the shoulders could just be Due to the high arm holes. Fit (in general with jackets) is funny. A little too tight looks great but doesnt feel it. A little too big looks sloppy but feels great. Leather jackets are a tough mistress.

Your jacket looks very slim fitting for sure. How's the movement? (Are you comfortable in driving position?) If the movement is good then this could possibly be one of the best slim fit I see on an A2 type jacket, horsehide too. I have the jerky horsehide in russet and black. Neither stretches, but is pretty comfortable to wear from day one. The grains is really nice too.

I didn't mean it as a joke.

I have similar horizontal crease on my Aero A1. That's why I asked. I like the way mine looks now, but I don't like the way it wears in terms of mobility. In hindsight I should have bought one size up, but it would look totally different. And I was wondering if this just me or others with similar fit experience the same.

When my arms reach forward, the back of the jacket pulls upward, which is not what I want. Is this the same experience you have @BryceR ?

My arms do feel very limited in the driving position. I believe it’s the high arm holes like Bfd70 said. I plan to lose around 20 pounds so I feel the fit in the gut will be a bit better, but I still think I’ll have the same issue as when I lift my arms up or pull forward I have very limited movement as like you said Canuck the jacket pulls up with my arms. So is there anyway to combat that or will the arm holes always be a bit snug and have limited movement?@Canuck Panda

Unfortunately, No.
I tried wet stretching my A1 to get more room in the back to stop the back from riding up, but it didn't work. I still wear mine, I just complain a lot.
I'm no expert on flight jackets but this leads me to believe that's one of the reason why there are so many different contract patterns. Maybe the pilots complained and the contractors promised different and better pattern to get the contract. So in theory, eventually I will find one that fits in looks and mobility. The flight jacket rabbit hole.

I was afraid that’s what you’d have to say haha. Well I still enjoy wearing it and if it’s just a bit of snugness in the arms I suppose I can manage. Like you said I’ll probably eventually buy another leather jacket as much as I don’t need one and keep hunting for a perfect flight jacket fit.

Man, that is a cool jacket. Still on my wishlist, thanks for reminding me! The fit is a bit tight, but you can definitely wear it just fine. As long as you don't feel like you can't move, you're safe. After losing the weight like you planned, it's bound to fit even better.

I believe it looks good.

That said, I have been there: Looks fine but feels restrictive. You can ignore it and still enjoy the jacket. Personally, I always ended up selling the jackets that felt tight after some time.
In your shoes, I´d probably wear the jacket as much as I can to get a feel for it. Sometimes you´re just used to a different "feel" (leather vs. cooton or wool; sport jacket vs. suit; A2 vs. Carcoat a.s.o.). People on the street will say, "Hey, what a cool jacket" and NOT, "Hey, this one is too small"...;)
