Let's be clear, NOT the Brown Round Sgt Carter wore nor the garrison cap Pvt. Pyle wore. I'm talking about waht we used in the Army used to call "Gomer Pyle Hats" . It was a canvas and fur winter hat, very reminicent to what you'd call a "trappers hat" or the tie-string bonnet the Russkies and North Koreans wore. Any idea what the real name and model number of this hat is and where a fellah can score one in a size 7 3/4!

Thanks in advance...

Thanks anyway... I found out it was the M-51 "Pile Cap" that was issued as winter field gear during the Korean War. Can't find any repros though...

Worf, does it specifically have to be a US hat, and do you specifically want that big, baseball-cap style brim? I ask because there might be a close alternative.... Cheap and plentiful over here, the German Army Winter Hat, often sold under the name "Cap Comforter" - available here online for £2. http://militarymart.co.uk/index.php?_a=product&product_id=540 Looks like this:

Close to what you were after, if not exact. Very practical - I have one somewhere I wore in the depths of a NYC Winter, back in '04... They tended to do them in a good range of sizes....

Otherwise, I've seen quite a few commercial variations of something much more along the lines of what you posted selling cheaply in Army Surplus places over here under the name "Trapper Hat". Hope that helps some...
