Need for Music?

Can't survive without music. I stopped counting my CD collection at 500...don't really know how many I have at this point. I wake up with music in my head every morning...sometimes I have no idea where the song came from. Sometimes it's a song I don't even like!

Well, let's see.

I've programmed a radio show on jazz, swing, Cuban & Hawaiian music circa 1925-1960 for about six years. I can play two instruments, most of my friends are either musically or artistically inclined or are musicians. I collect 78 RPM records and I listen on average for about 2 hours a day, more when I do my radio show.

Without it I wouldn't have much of a life. If I went deaf all of a sudden, I'd have to say that I would have to cope, but you can bet that it would be painting or sculpture or something artistic.

Technically, or at least according to Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs, we don't need music to live, but I do believe that I need it to feel alive.

I love music, all kinds. My tastes range from country to classic, rock to reggae, bluegrass to blues. Folk, World music, jazz, Tango, Latin, Hawaiian, Swing, the list goes on. I listen to music daily in my 50 minute drive to and from work, and frequently at home. I can't imagine a world without it!

MUST have music!!

My dad's a musician, my sis has a bachelor's in music, several relatives are musicians...& I've been told I'm a musician in denial.

'Tis true. ;)

I would like to stand up and be counted in this number :D

If I started listening to all of the music I've collected over the years I'm not sure how long it would take or if I would even live long enough to finish. I don't like every kind of music, but I do like some of most.
A very small list of some of my favorites from across all styles,
Count Basie
Fletcher Henderson
Miles Davis
Waylon Jennings
Bill Monroe
The Smashing Pumpkins
Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band
I'll stop here.

I guess I fall into the addict category. I’ve collected vinyl since I was 14 and the collection has passed 3500 a long time ago. My cd collection has rounded 500 but to be honest when playing music at home or in my studio I prefer vinyl in spite of the disadvantages of not being able to jump from track to track.
I started turning my vinyl into mp3s a couple of years ago and my mp3 players and external hard discs are steadily filling up.
I don’t share my studio with anyone so I either listen to the radio or play music all the time and I usually wear a headset when traveling by train, bus or tube or walking about in the city (never when hiking in the woods though, I mean there are limits)

And I subscribe to the belief that music you once liked a lot is never really bad, so I do listen to the first LP I ever bought (The Best Of The Animals) from time to time still
