Original radio recording were stolen by a National Archives employee who sold many of them on ebay including the original Herb Morrison recording of the Hindenburg crash.

Apparently, some folk at the National Archives are now trying to locate the stolen recording to have them returned to the archive. I hope that they're successful.

Very disappointing to hear to say the least (& let's not have any oh the humanity jokes).

I knew (slightly) and had had dealings with the National Archives official responsible for this, and Dave Goldin, the collector who helped track him down, is a good friend of mine. It's a tragic story for all involved -- Waffen was a valuable resource to researchers over the years, and it's very unfortunate that temptation got the better of him. I had actually bid on a few of those recordings when they were on eBay, and am glad now I didn't get them...

From an old cops perspective, this probably isnt the first time the guy did it. Its just the first time he got caught.
