Looks like a Keystone B-3 to me...

Here's the thing...if you look up the specs on this plane it says "Crew: 1."

No, not a homebuilt. It's a military aircraft.

Don't know it straight off, looks to be American though (crumbs people, other countries made aircraft in the 30s and 40s as well ). Looks similar to a Peashooter so might be a Boeing crate.

I ran out of steam on this one Kilroy and the fianc?©e's getting annoyed with me reading plane books all the time so I'm out.

Definitely US designed (and probably built), I'd tend towards something like a Curtiss, Boeing, etc...
