I can't quite believe the eighties are being referred to as vintage! These teens in their legwarmers and flourescant jewellery are laughing at me? Me! Goodness what has the world come too!

It seems weird at first to consider the 80s as vintage, but the stuff is 20 years old now. I first started wearing 50s vintage (or "dead mans clothes" according to my mum) in the late 70s, so those clothes were also just 20 years old at the time. People have always laughed at me...

Snap! I first started wearing vintage (and repro) around '75 and I had such a hard time over it. Didn't stop me though. Of course, in the early 80s, wiggle skirts and stilettos came back into fashion - I was a guru, I tell ya!! lol

Still in the eighties - puffball skirts (ugh)...not a peculiarity of the decade but harking back to the 40s. I have a 1941 edition of Vogue that shows puffball skirts in the fashion plates. They're still horrid though, IMO. :(

80's? how many of you ever played "Smurfs"? In college we would watch the Smurf Show and take a drink everytime any variation of the word "Smurf" was used in the dialoge. We would be good and buzzed by the end of the opening credits and plowed by the end of the 1/2 hour.

The general rule used to be that fashion ran in 32 years cycles.

The past few years it seems like it's running more in 22 year cycles.

How true, just saw a, "Baby on Board" sign on a car window this morning on my commute.

And when Aloha shirts, or pleated trousers, or loud ties etc. etc. come around again for the fashion followers I die a little at the thought of being though "fashionable". I've had more than a few comments about trying to look like Simon Cowell since he first appeared on TV wearing (not particularly) high-waisted trousers - they barely reach his navel fercrissakes! Some people just need a slap...

Yes, the 80's are back. I've seen leggings, mullets on models, you name it. However, they are picking and choosing their looks.

However, there was a 40's revival in the 80's too. I have some patterns from the "Dynasty Collection" that if I made them up in the right fabrics, would pass for 40's stuff at FL events.

Don't dare me, I'll do it! I even wore bell bottoms to Club 1970 in 1988!!!! lol

As for naff, my mom graduated H.S. in 1960 and when she sees me in 30's and 40's vintage she shudders and says that I look like her mom! To her, wedges and a swing dress are the ultimate naff, the mod 60's look is where it's at.

Yep, the Dynasty Collection was 40s inspired. That's why I have to laugh at those who think Dynasty was naff.
Now if you want to talk naff, lets bring up the nehru jacket or the leisure suit. Now those are bad and I never want to see them ever again. I could deal with women and the sunshine ray hair much better. :p

Uh! I hope no one decides to put down Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66. I don't have a large enough supply of Everclear in the house for that.

Everclear!? Geez, do they still make that stuff?
Ah Everclear. You can drink it and when you run out of gas use the rest to get home. :p
I can't take that stuff anymore. Next thing you will bring up Jaegermeister.

I love Jagermeister but since I sip it not shoot it I would never bring it up.
I get Everclear at the PX. Fer cheap.
A few Loungers were name-calling and putting down my beloved Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass and it occurred to me some people who bumped into this thread might be put in mind of Brasil '66 and decide THEY were put-downable, too. I thought of this as I was listening to Frank sing a version of Night and Day an hour ago.
Whenever something is sad or upsetting in the Lounge I say I am looking for a drink.
