The radical feminists believed that the play reflected the time in history when Mother-right became Father-right, therefore devaluing women.

They believed that Clytemnestra had the right to kill Agamemnon, based on his sacrificing their daughter (another insult to women?) to get the ships moving to Troy.

But, of course, the story is so much more intricate and complicated than that.

No, they are beyond the Bachofen "Mutterrecht" paradigm. The worst is Froma Zeitlin's "The Dynamics of Misogyny." Pure garbage, 1970s Second Wave reactionary, radical feminism at its worst: still taught in classes.

Put me in with the mythology fans. Grew up with a lot of Greek mythology, read the Iliad and the Odyssey at school and loved them. I also love a lot of the stories from Maori legend which being a Kiwi I've read quite a few of. And now I have a real interest in Norse mythology from living in Norway and having a better half who is a Viking ;) When you are up in the craggy, black mountains of northern Norway and there is a big storm brewing it's not difficult to imagine Thor at work.
