Friends ,
My Open Road arrived this afternoon! And boy is it SWEET! It was just as the auction said. Very very clean [but it could still use a cleaning and reblock] I think I am going to send it to Steve Delk on into the summer, so I can have it back by fall. My camera is on the fritz but here is the auction pic...

When I can get some of my pics I will post them. It had a teardrop bash in it and it looks good so I think i will leave it with that bash.
Also it has some tags One tag has
""Washer Brothers Ft Worth Texas 4H5687 $10.00 "
It also has "$3.00" written on the sweat band. It does not look as if it has been worn very much as a small paper tag above the bow on the sweatband still looks very 'new' [the tag has STETSON' on it]
I am planning to wear it tonight to a local play by our High School kids.
I am one happy camper tonight!

I would say it is a little darker than a Open Road you could get now. I have never had a hat cleaned so maybe a cleaning would lighten it up some but I think the color is the same as most Open Roads.
I hope some one can let me have a close time on the age. After getting this hat I can see how you will want to get other vintage hats! oh my....
Anyway I priced a new Open Road a a local western store. It was on sale as they were getting ready for spring $ 95.00 I gave $76.01 for a vintage so I am so happy with what I gave.

The Washer Brothers

Found this on the Washer Brothes at this site

http://www.fortworthgov.org/tpw/FortWorth150Articles.htm

"This was none too soon. A scene described in the 1960 newspaper article indicates the condition of streets in 1882: "A man whose first name was Nathan came here from civilized Tennessee in 1882. He got off the train, was looking over the town and stepped into a mudhole on Main Street. He stood up in the wallow that had ruined his clothes and splashed over his whole face. 'This is a crude town,' he declared. 'I will not stay here.' Nathan was pulled from the mud by his brother, Jacob, who urged him to stay anyway, and help him sell 10-gallon hats." So the Washer Brothers stayed and opened a successful business in downtown Fort Worth."

Still trying to pinpoint the age of my Open Road, I will try to post some pics soon so you guys in the know can help.
