I want one of those plastic things! Anybody know another source for such or similar?
I was wondering the same thing, so please speak up if anyone knows where these can be found.

Cappelleria Mutinelli! But I guess that's too much out of the way lol
I'd think hat shops should have them...

I did what others have done - a handmade block with glued ovals of 2 inch thick wood, sanded to shape and water sealed.

But in a pinch, if you don't plan to do a lot of blocking, that plastic shell and a high-wall hat stretcher from the bay is genius.

Now we just need a source for them there plastic thingies.

... I learned how to sew in elementary school. Then my mom made me mend my own smelly socks when we were poor and couldn't afford new ones:eek:

I guess it's OK if boys sew socks.

But real men only sew felt and leather!... :D

... and whatever else they damn well please. lol

Aureliano...your endeavours gave me the courage to go and try...

I believe that I think :)p...) that I have come to a resolution and will proceed to finally make my own hat block, Al_Ojeda style. I'll have to find one of those big styrofoam blocks and some polyester resin to cover the block...

And no, I'll not keep you updated while I'm in the process of shaping the thing. Instead, I'll present some photos when I've succeeded. If not, I'll just let the whole story sink into oblivion for some time... ;)

Way to go, Mario! Can't wait to see if your "alla Rodin" block turns out well.
Thanks Gents for all the positive comments!
