My new-to-me bomber jacket

I got this leather jacket off eBay in January. It's not brand new, but it's not anywhere near old enough to be considered truly vintage. At any rate, the brand is Cockpit, and it's made in the USA. I love it; you just don't see too many brown bomber jackets anymore!

Yeah, I was kinda concerned about how it should fit. I didn't want anything too tight; however, I had heard so-called authorities on men's fashion say that oversized leather jackets looked too Top Gun-ish and dated and that you should wear a more snug-fitting one. So while with other winter coats I normally wear a size larger than what I wear in shirts, this time I went with my shirt size.

Now you have a leather jacket to use as a guide as you obtain more of them. If you like the way it fits in the torso, use the p2p as a guide. On a flat surface lay the jacket front side up. Using a cloth tailor's tape, pull the hide tight, let it relax and take the measurement across the front of the jacket from just under one armpit to just under the other armpit. Try to be accurate within 1/4". This will be the p2p measurement of the jacket. The measurement of your chest is taken by putting the tape all the way around your chest while wearing a closely fitted T-shirt. For example, if your chest measures 40" then the jacket will probably measure about 22" at the p2p. This gives an outer diameter of approximately 44" for the jacket.

Irrespective of what you may have read in another thread, this isn't a cafe racer style jacket; it is an A-2 style jacket. A good find.

Thanks - The tutorial was done by Andy Falzon. Although I think he has been banned from this forum and the VLJ forum for his lack of diplomacy, he appears to know his stuff and has contributed to our knowledge base, this one being a case in point.

Forgot to say, I'm glad y'all like my jacket!

Now I've just thought of something . . . was I mistaken in referring to my jacket as a bomber jacket and not as a flight jacket? It seems like for some folks "bomber jacket" and "flight jacket" are interchangeable, but I've also heard that those terms are not synonymous. Can anybody enlighten me?

"Bomber" simply refers to the tight, elastic waist and cuff bands around the sleeve ends and the waist band area, and shorter style of jacket. "Flight" jackets had a more specific style such as A2 (like yours is).

Glad you like it! And you don't have to worry about me getting more and more leather jackets; they're not cowboy boots . Unlike jackets, cowboy boots are what I have to be on guard about or else I'll find myself in the poorhouse!
