I've been looking for a nice bookplate. Do you do custom bookplates? Something like that piece would be perfect.

Gotta admit, had to look this one up (thanks Wikipedia) cause Id heard the term used a few different ways. So you are looking for the traditional idea of it, as in, a 'this book belongs to xxxx' type of bookplate? Thats sound like a cool project! It looks like they were originally done as etchings, I work with linoleum, but a lot of the same effects can be achieved with that medium as well. PM me so we can talk.

Thanks,

LD

Squeee indeed! I like your math, very nice! :eusa_clap

I did one half way done, very small, lino block for what amounts to an art class (exploring medieval woodcuts), so I can have a remote idea to appreciate the work! Doesn't tend to be too forgiving of big mistakes.

I wonder what a lino of the Fedora Lounge hat guy logo would look like - probably make for nice business cards, bookplates, etc.

Oh, I made a BIG *cough* mistake in cutting it. But I caught it and thanks to Elmer's glue, you shouldnt see it in the final

Why didnt you finish your woodcut? Im totally addicted to this medium. Im two runs from completion of a 22"x36" poster design called 'Mic at Midnight'
and I just finished a deco Oceanliner design, ready for printing. :eusa_doh:
I think i need lino-anonymous.

Oh, probably because I'm more analytical than artistic. I'd figured out how the process was done, and without sitting in the (two hour long) class to motivate me, I never finished it. That's actually likely the main culprit, I'm lazy.

Very very nice with the two tone! I'm not sure I'm seeing how you get that effect? Are you "painting" parts of the lino with the lighter color? How do you handle trapping?

Its the same ink (consistency, value, amount) laid over the block and printed again. This ink is prepared with a transparent medium of about 9 parts medium to one part ink. Hince the 'washed out area' you can see in the latest pic I posted at the bottom (the streaks, thats a mistake BTW :( ). This transparency adds a subtle value shift that is hard to get with an opaque ink, and just looks so darn cool.

Tomorrow I do run three Squeeee!

Yup.
The area that is already printed on the paper, I cut away on the block that area of color I want to keep. I keep doing that until the block is completly carved away. Hence, destroying my source. I like that part about the process

lol!

You print in 'editions', a number of prints that are then numbered from best (#1) to worst (#xxx). In theory, the prints are all suposta look the same, but it is hand made.

For this one, the edition is small. 10 prints. Im printing 2 extra, as safeties (which is a small cushion  ), so I hope I can have 10 for the edition. Im pretty strict on my editions (like the second run with the streak wont make it  ).
