I got a comission :)

Im doing the poster for my local city college art sale. I dont get paid for it (some comission, right) but tehy are paying for all my supplies, so I get to work large! Yay

Here is a rough mock up of the design I have in mind. Im doing it as a lino cut (again) prolly an edition of 15 or 20. We will see.

Im basing the design off a those of war bonds. I love the mix of fonts and excessive detail those documents had.

Once the design gets past the 'eyes that be', Ill post a better worked one up. But as a start, here goes.

I like this one as-is, so if i's just the start the finished product is going to be fantastic. Beautiful work, LD! :)

More of a final sketch on the design. The black type is a bit hard to see ,cause I didnt bother with putting highlights on the sketch. Still not too sure about the 'City College' font (will more than likely change it), but all in all Im digging it thus far.

Now to transfer to the linoleum...

Thanks,

LD

Oh, the second draft is even nicer! Really lovely LD. I second the plea for an FL bookplate--I'd love to see what you'd design.

Yeah its been a while, but I finally got some pics together on the process of the print.

Sorry but my plates been small and the stuff has been huge (three jobs right now). But this print is one of my most intricate (mainly cause of the wording.). There us a bit of 'orange peeling' on the middle left side that I couldnt get rid or. Its a printing issue, but its slowly fading away with the ladder of runs, so it wont be noticable at all when finished.

Its got about 3 more runs to go, Im printing 20, with a hope of an edition of 12-15. The College wants 10, so I get the leftovers (I always take the 2nd print in my edition).

So here it is thus far...

Thisi s after 2 runs. The colors are a bit yuckie (camera phone).

Here is the third run. You can now see the details coming out through the cutting. Im getting excited with it.

Im working with transparent ink, and that give me the soft color transitions. In context it will still resemble the sketck I put up (the last two colors will really pop).

I have about 3-4 more runs on this, It needs to be done by the first week of Nov. I can do it :)

Thanks all,

LD

LD -- great great work! Love it, love it. love it. Do you have a site with a gallery of your work or a protfolio? I'd love to see more of what you've done.

Oh, and I agree -- a book plate is in order (of course, when you aren't terribly busy being such a fabulous artist ;) )

Well, its been finished for about two weeks now, I just forgot my camera. SO I made a special trip to the lab today just to snap a few photos.

It was a lot of work, and all in all, Id give myself a C on the execution. There were a lot of factors that made it a difficult environment to print in. I printed about 18, and only 5 were worthy of the edition, but they wanted an edition of 10, so I flubbed a few.

I learned a lot on this print too. So the next time, I can be better.

SO gorgeous. The detail in color and line is amazing. It was fascinating to follow the evolution of the design, and the finished product is fantastic.

If this is a "C," your "A"s must be through the roof!
