I think I know what Mycroft is talking about- I've seen some cheap felt Fedoras on eBay.co.uk from Ecuador which have a pleated ribbon.

...no, that doesn't exactly look like a pleat actually...
that guy has these up on eBay full time.
Sure I've seen ones from Ecuador with a pleat somewhere...

That is very interesting. The hat really looks like a great hat---vintage even.
I have a Knox Tom and Jerry from the 1950s that has the same ribbon treatment. I am glad that the style didn't just die out and that it is being used still today.

Similar BT, but closer to a prok pie is the tradtional hat of Ecuador (the mountinous parts).
