This is my Fed Deluxe and the color on my screen is right on.

Man that hat is huge! It's helpful to finally see a Fed D in its open crown state. I wondered if the Fed D might actually be a different block than the regular, but this pretty much solidifies that it isn't. Great color, but it is nice to hear they're finally fixing these things. Thanks, G MAN, for showing the first open crowned shot of a Fed Deluxe in ages.

Can someone else with a Deluxe post pictures of it?

This was taken with a flash, BUT on my monitor at least it is an accurate reproduction of the colour in most lights. In direct unlight it seems a little lighter. To my eyes, this is spot on the colour of Dr Jones' hat.

I'd email them with a picture. It definitely sounds like you got a wrong hat. Mixups happen - could've even happened at the factory - Hatsdirect just pulled it off the shelf without looking inside the box. The color's wrong (the pic and your saying it's gray and not the chocolate brown shade) and to me, the bow & ribbon looks off. I'm sure if they inadvertently sent you a wrong hat, they'd pick up the return shipping and shipping on the replacement. That's the least they can do. But by all accounts, they're reputable, honest and fair businesspeople. They were great to deal with when I ordered my Federation.

Mike- I was going to do exactly what you recommended.
-Then it started to snow...and snow...and kept snowing. We're supposed to get 8 inches or so, and I was going to be out in it today and tomorrow. So after a bashing, it is now my 'driveway shoveling crappy weather and snow hat'. Kinda an expensive example of one, but alas, patience is not my strong point.
I'm going to try to put a flat black ribbon and bow on it -if I can find any ribbon locally- or maybe order it. I think that contrast might give it a little personality.

As a side note, hopefully when my 'hat fund well' refills, I'll get a Camptown Feildmaster with that sought after rich BROWN color.

Can I still ask if anyone has pics of a cut down brim?

I know it's not "Indi" if It's not an umbrella, but my "Fedora" seems to fit my face and build so much better. I'd love to see a "Federation" with a 2 1/2 or 2 5/8 brim.

Citron,
What did you end up doing with your Deluxe? Did you keep it after all or is it still in line for a tradeout? Let's see what you've done with it so far if you kept it.

Also note-

David Morgan seems to have picked up a "clone" to the Federation. I think it is called the "Adventurer". $125.00. It also looks almost black- kind of a dark espresso cooked a little too long? [huh]

I think though that this buyers anticipation followed by a bit of "disappointment" is normal. And a bit of time makes it better (Not required though- I admit it- I bought a "Blue" angler used not long ago- I loved it from the moment it flew into the room - well- I forgot to tell my spouse I ordered another hat so I deserved that!). :eusa_doh: I'm beginning to think that the decision to fork over the $300+ to get a custom (mentioned numerous times on this discussion list) might just be worth it. I tend to do this same thing- order one, ship it back, get a new one, rinse and repeat. As to your experience with hatsdirect,- I ordered a Banjo Paterson recently and it came just a bit off- pinch was not quite straight and the sweat had a wrinkle- the good folks at that establishment sent me a new one and paid for the return shipping!! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I won't mention any names but it sounds like flogginbops. Tee,hee!!:D

The Adventurer is very similar to the Federation, but differs in some details. I don't remember which, exactly, but if you search around, you'll find some older posts that compare the two hats.

Well, I emailed HD, and was offered to send it back to them "...in order to determine if there was a problem with the color" -then if so, a different one would be sent out. -But I decided to save my $30 bucks it would cost me to send it back and just live with it. As soon as I can, I'll get some pictures up of it bash...er shaped.

This is why I didn't order an Adventurer, I wanted the more chocolatey color of the Fed Dlx

I couldn't agree more-

I've learned my lesson, my future purchases will be from someone on the same continent as I am.

But if there's a problem with the color (which apparently there definitely is), I'm sure they'd refund the return shipping to you. That's the LEAST they can do.

That's what I thought, too, however it took a couple of emails to get what info I did out of them, the first response didn't make any sense to me at all...they didn't seem to have much time to respond to my request.

Maybe someone can offer this Federation Deluxe a new home and give it the love and respect it needs and deserves. It is in the classified section. Size 56, 2 weeks old.

Thanks for the updates, Citi,
and for the photos, Stoney.

I started looking at my Fed. Deluxe more critically and realized that my brim is not dimensional, it's 2 3/4 all of the way around. If I can build up the nerve, I think I'm going to try to cut the sides down a bit. I can't be sure how much I want to cut, seeing as I'll be trying to keep it the same front to back, but I'll let you know if I ever take the plunge ;)
