I never knew that they could sew a collar stand in FQHH...

Gancho's fantastic looking A2 looks similar to my Eastman Dwg 30-1415.

I confess to being somewhat ignorant when it comes to the intricacies of different A2 drawings.

The collar stand is my problem area. It appears to be the same on my Eastman and it seems to make the collar stick up slightly too much - thereby allowing the throat clasp to stick into my neck.

I don't get the same problem with my Aero Dwg 30H1415.

I'll be interested to know if Gancho experiences this problem.

That's a very impressive jacket. And as some here know I'm not a fan of the A2. Also, I love that hide. Note to self: buy a HH jacket sometime soon.

That is a beautiful jacket , and the fit is perfect! I'm not even an A2 fan, but I like yours. Congratulations!

If you don't mind me asking, when did you order yours?

Great looking jacket in that FQHH and a stunning fit on you!
I had emailed Mark Moye about the A-2 in FQHH and he said Aero wouldn't make it, the jacket would have to be made of a lighter HH. Guess where I will order my next custom Aero from: Mark or Amanda?

I think Mark is right about Aero not making an A2 with their normal hvy FQHH that they use for utility jackets. They will use what they call "shaved" FQHH,however....which is quite a bit thicker than regular A2 HH...with a very similar appearance to the heaviest stuff. I was assuming that this new 38-1711-P was made of the shaved FQHH...(?).

Yeah, you could be right. I was only going by what Gancho said in his original post that it was heavy FQHH; didn't know they did A-2s in a shaved FQHH. So now there are A-2s produced with regular A-2 HH as well as shaved FQHH. Gee if I was a new consumer, I wouldn't know Aero built ANY A-2s. The Aero Leather USA ebay site doesn't list any or the Cheyenne or any of the U.S. Navy examples. My point is after pouring through many posts and threads from the FL and other forums and personally talking to some friends of mine who had jackets built (standard and custom) by Aero directly, I'm still waiting to see the benefit of going through Aero USA.

America..........home of choices, gotta love it!

Aero has been making A2s with the shaved FQHH as an option for a few years now. Several have been posted on the VLJ forum. The hide still breaks-in and marbles quite like the Heavier Aero FQHH.
Mark stopped ordering and advertising Aero military type jackets a year or so ago...don't know why.
I went back and read the first post...and Gancho does say his new jacket is the heavy FQHH. If it is ...it's the first one I"ve seen in that hide.

Mark stopped selling A-2's because of all the negative posts on forums like here and VLJ (esp. VLJ) about Aero A-2's not being authentic enough. Customers and folks wanting to place an order were driving him crazy with what was in his view overly picky issues of authenticity. The big problem was that folks were getting ugly about it to Mark. So, he stopped offering A-2's. I think he might have been offering again not to long ago? But maybe he has stopped.

Hi there,

you might be right about the horsehide. It is a little bit thinner than Aero's "normal" FQHH. I ordered directly in Galashiels in the beginning of November 2009. The most important think for me was the fitting. I had have a A2 in FQHH before, the leather was definitelly thicker than the hide of this. My idea was to leave it in Galashiels to do some changings to get a better fit. Will told that it is unpossible. So I ordered a new one.

Regarding to the collar, the think I noticed is that the hook is not closable. Therefore the collar is to stiff and narow.

Now after a few days of wearring I love this jacket much much more. When the leather is getting warm, I can fell how it will be in a few months. It has become more comfortable and I notice how it snuggle to my body.

Warm regards from Germany

In my opinion..what Aero calls shaved FQHH makes a nice alternative for their A2 repro jacket. It ages beautifully. With the great fit that you have received...and the stylish '38 contract features..it certainly is an awesome jacket.

For those of you who have both shaved FQHH and jerky horsehide jackets --

Is shaved FQHH the same weight as jerky hh, or does it fall, weight-wise, somewhere between jerky and FQHH?
