My latest 1930/40's ? leather jacket: Cycle/Luftwaffe style

I would concur respectfully that if you wanted to emulate a jacket from an earlier era any of the Baron's suggestions would be apt. This jacket is, I think, from the slihgtly later era of artificial silk linings - sometimes bright but more often grey or blue on German jackets, and sometimes lightly quilted.

But hey! It's your jacket - put in what you want. It deserves a good job. Aero will do just that.

re: the lining, i might propose a medium brown heavyweight wool twill. Given how tight they fit, there was never any possibility fo wearing much under them so they had to be warm in and of themselves. Since leather is distincly not a warm material, heavyweight wools were used. Tweeds, flannels often with prominent plaid patterns very often in the german leathers. Certainly twill wool, by all the examples of these jackets i've seen. Or maybe a plaid flannel like the other one ukali1066 has, again very common on the German leathers …

What a great find. I agree with the others; I don't think the jacket has been shortened. I have motorcycle jackets that short, and it was certainly the style back then. The zipper is a bit worrisome on a fine jacket like that, but I would think the one side could be reset for not too much of an outlay.

Your choice of the Alpaca lining is a good one for that jacket and your climate. The lining is relatively thin, which you need, and is fairly warm for its thickness. Whatever you do, it will look great. Congratulations on a really nice find.

The jacket's all packed up and ready to go to Aeroleather for restoration, I went for their brown cotton drill, so I can wear it in warmer weather too.
I removed the awful yellow liner myself, I could see a good few remnants of the original lining, a silky white pinstripe material.

I'll post "after" pics when it comes back in about 6 weeks

Man... that yellow lining is BRIGHT... I need to wear sunglasses to look at that lining... lol.

Good to hear you went for a full restoration job and not for a new Wested Indy. This jacket has so much character and it's very stylish as well. The fit is perfect. Those type of jackets (repro or vintage) have become quite popular on the FL during the last couple of months.

Please, please post some pics of it once it's back from Aero. I am pretty sure that they will try to use the original stitch holes when the replace the lining (and zip?).
