My Grandfather's Hats

Hello,

It took me almost 5 years to get my grandfather's hats up in my office. I never could find something that did them justice.

Anyway, this is what my wood craftsman guy came up with. Each mount is shaped to the individual hat. Do you think this will deform the hats over time? Also, what's the best method for removing dust, etc?

I'd be curious to hear any details you may know about the hats such as style or age.

Thanks a lot,
Dave

Looks great Dave!
Those should not deform the hats in any way,
The best thing to remove dust is a light brushing with one of these.
You can get them from most of the hat vendors here or over the 'net.

Nice job & welcome to the Lounge, Big Dave! My mother has a hat or two of her father's that have hung on what we call the "hall tree" ever since he passed. If you don't mind, I may see if she wants to use that design to put his hats on the wall.

Thanks again.

Spats McGee you are welcome to use the idea. Here's a couple of tips. I gave the wood maker my hat jack (stretcher) so he could get an idea of the proper bevel to shape the wood that the hat band rests on.

The piece of wood that goes against the wall is wider. If I did it again I'd probably want it the same size as the piece that the hat rests on. That way the hat would be floating on the wall...and you would only see the hat and not any wood.

Take care,
Dave

Building on your idea... Wouldn't it be cool too mount an actual hat jack (or hat-jack-type-device) on the wall, so you could place your favorite hat in a position of honor, without worrying about distorting the hat? Soooo much better than hanging it on a hook or leaving it upside down in a box.
