My first work of Art: Blue beauty!

Hello,

I would like to share with you some pictures of my first custom hat, which, appropriately enough, is a VS fedora.

Actually, I have been owning it for about three weeks, but the first photos I took with my regular camera could not adequately capture the colours, specially the felt's deep blue, so I waited until I could borrow a better camera.

I discussed with Art about dimensions and general characteristics, but I left him some leeway. Some details were agreed upon before (like dimensions, 5 1/2'' open crown, 2 1/2'' brim; colour, Midnite Blue with red accents), and others were more loosely defined (like crease or ribbon specifications). I am extremely pleased with the final result.

Dealing with Art has proved to be a very pleasant experience; he has been very helpful throughout, and you can always feel how professional and tasteful he is.

I will leave pics speak for themselves:

I know, I know, where's the photo of the hat on my head? :) I will post it as soon as I take one with the new camera.

Regards!

It's a very handsome hat, and I look forward to seeing it on your head. Your avatar leads me to believe that this hat might be a tribute to your interest in "The Spirit" comic book, right? I only recently (thanks the the Lounge) discovered that character, but it's interesting.

Very nice, Torpedo! That is a beauty and a great combo of felt and ribbon colors. The red accent is eye-catching.

Beautiful hat, Torp and Art. I love that midnight blue, and the ribbon is perfect for it. I already know it will look great on you, but I'll be waiting to see it anyway.

The more hats I see in this shade of color the more I like 'em. That's one nice hat. Wonder why there aren't more factory hats in this kind of shade/color?

Hello again,

Thank you all for the comments.

As has been pointed out by some who have seen the hat, and in this particular thread by David Conwill, a relation may be seen, in the choice of colours and style, with the trademarks of comics character The Spirit, created by the great Will Eisner.

This was more by accident than by design; when thinking about what would I like Art Fawcett to do, I decided to select one of those felt colours that are hard to come by in vintage hats, that form the greater part of my collection; hence, I chose blue. I wanted some red accent in order to combine it with similarly toned ties, of which I have a number. It was when discussing the issue with Art that The Spirit came to my mind too, and well, that was fine with me too. So, I changed my avatar accordingly... it seemed appropriate ;)

Well, here you have a photo of me wearing the hat. Any similarity with The Spirit image is definitely not coincidental!

Mmmh... I'm feeling the urge of donning a domino mask and doing some vigilante work...

(Of course it is the classic comics character the one I mean - there is a forthcoming movie by Frank Miller that seems to have botched it thoroughly, by making it a sort of "Sin City" sequel... the main character wears black and not blue, down to the shirt and uh-oh... Converse training shoes! :eusa_doh: Certainly not promising...)
