Dear Loungers.

The mania continues.
Won this suit on ebay.
"VINTAGE 1945 HARRIS TWEED SUIT 46"L BY MONTAGUE BURTON,
THREE PIECE SUIT, JACKET, TROUSERS AND PLUS 4s."

I am paying 615 USD.
Is that reasonable?

The suit is a bit flash, which suits me just fine.
Really looking forward to it.

I would say you paid top dollar, but you would have to to win such a rare in style and rare in size suit.

It is quite a bit higher price than you would normally expect to pay for a vintage suit, but that is extremely rare in any size, and in your size almost impossible. So I would be glad you won it and consider it a fair price.

Fantaastic suit by the way.

I would also suggest that the price seems a little higher than it would have if the dollar wasn't so low. A year ago it might have been maybe only $500.

Dear ohairas and reetpleat.

Thank you for your response.

I had not planned to pay as much for the suit.
But; was a bit under the influence late one night and got a bit trigger happy...
Good to hear that it probably is worth it.

As I tend to subscribe to the "British" look, and have a romance with dandyism, this suit is perfect for me.

Have to put a lid on ebaying for a couple of months.
Budget bust...

Now; what to wear with it? ;)

Mind you, part of what you are paying for is the plus fours. So I hope you find occasion to wear them. I don't know if I ever would, but if you lean towards this look and dandyism, then by all means, go for it.

I would have liked a vest, but this style suit wold be perfect for a nice wooly solid or patterned v neck vest. Either a stand out color like a pastel green perhaps, or a brownish type, maybe a fair isle. Be sure and send us pics.

ALso, a fedora will suit fine or a newsboy or golf style cap.

A Fair-Isle is planned.
The Missus is a more than handy gal and the knitting technique of Fair-Isle is identical with classic Norwegian technique.

This book is ordered, paid for and will be in the mail shortly.

The plus fours are one of the main reasons why I fell for the suit.
Will be reserved for special occations though.
I need stockings...
That feels weird... :p

SUIT CAME!!!
I AM KINDA AGITATED!!!

The suit needs a bit of alterations.
The original owner musted have been close to death by starvation!
My slender frame iis a tad to bulky...
(OK, I have a somewhat substantial beergut...)

BUT; it will be fine & dandy in the end.
It is a grand suit, and I will in fact lose some weight for it...
(Which I under no circumstance will do of health issues, hows that for vanity?)

The ensemble is planned in detail.
My dear Tuppence B. has agreed to knit me Fair Isle vest & stockings in identical patterns.

Here is the colours we chose, hopefully matching the cap & shoes:

And; we plan to do a matching garment for our unsuspecting "Soda"!

Now; where can I get myself a nice bargain on a Purdey?
Cant wait, simply cant wait...
