Here's few pics of my first tests with steam. Brown is cheap thrift find and grey is vintage Austrian made hat. My opinion is that those turned allright, but I can't figure out how to get C-shape with even sides and without too sharp turns.

Well, maybe next one turnout better, I'll get my new Federation from customs tomorrow.

Looks to me like you did a bang up job. If you can do these two then you should have no problems with the Fed when it arrives. Mine dry bashed no problem.

C-crown bash

I think that the sharp turns in a C-crown bash are characteristic of a hand bash. If you look at old films, people like Bogart don't have a smooth C-bash. Personally, I think the sharp turns look better than a smooth C-bash on factory hats, but that's just my opinion.

Don't be bashful. A little judicious use of steam and your fingers will smooth out those wrinkles.
