I so desperately want to post something with the epitome of art deco styling. Perhaps something like a Cartier brooch or a Lalique vase? But alas, I have ideas above my station and my budget dictates otherwise- so here’s a wonky photo of my beloved clock instead …. Ahhh I do like a nice bit of bakelite!

Lovely, really stylish clock, love the vases too! I have a little deco french clock in red marble with a gilt sphinx on the top, which i bought a while back in a junk shop, really nice but i can't post any pictures as computer is still not playing ball. I love everyone's items, i'm drooling over here in Blighty, i have one serious case of Deco envy!

I'm not a major collector of Art Deco items, so the piece below is the best I've got. Just received it after months of installment payments -- I had to sell two of my pocket watches to get this one, which is from 1930 or so. (See photo below.)

Me too, i'm going to be collecting my pension by the time i have finished all those hail marys i'm gonna get from the priest on sunday for impure thoughts about that watch. Stunning!

I hope this qualifies as Deco. I'm no expert on the matter at hand, but this is a favorite object. Simply because it is an air compressor, a tool and not an ornament, though it is ornamental. I enjoy the care expressed in the design of a simple object. Those days are gone, I fear.

Isn't she lovely? Still in use in my cluttered work shop.

And this one I keep on top of a deco display case where I keep my absinthe glasses
I found this one in my Grandmother's attic, along with a Chase Bellhop cigarette holder, and a touchtip lighter, sometimes you get lucky.

What is a 'radio lamp' and how does it differ from any other lamp?

This is one of my favourite items, as I love pre-war cars but for the moment (at least) I can't afford to buy one. It's a clockwork car made by Schuco 'Kommando Anno 2000', and this is a pre-war one...I think they started making them in 1938.

A Radio lamp was generally a soft indirect room light intended to provide soft general ( rather than task) illumination, and which was designed to sit atop a console radio.

Good description, and much better for the top of the radio than a planter or potted plant, with optional water damage to the radio top.

TRULY AWESOME. Love classic American-made power tools (have & use a couple power hand tools from my granddad from the 50s which I replaced the crumbling power cords on), but never seen anything quite like some of these before. Thanks for posting.

Walker Turner, Delta, and Craftsman all had some fabulous art deco designs back in the day. A few other brands did as well, like Buffalo tools and Beaver (Canadian).

I'm a Craftsman guy. After seeing something like this, its not hard to figure out why:

People see the cheapo power tools today and seem to forget that manufacturers once made astoundingly beautiful, classy tools.
