DJ the green hat is nice too. I have not seen another like it so that one will not be repaired either. At some point in my mind a hat that is unique or rare that I can't replace becomes an object to admire and not one that I can wear often.

Agreed, I wouldn't repair a unique gem like that either. Too much history and personal value built up in the wear & tear. But, how could you not resist the call to wear it when it still looks so good? The temptation must be great at times.
What we have seen, you have a great collection, pretty much one for every day of the year. Good show. Loved what I have seen so far, but I guess that you have saved the best for later, huh?;)

Cheers!

Here is an older photo of the hat from the side.

This picture was taken almost 15 years ago. That little girl now lives in your neck of the woods.

I came across this famous photo of Roosevelt (minus John Muir) in Yosemite and thought his hat looked a lot like yours.

Here are a couple of other shots with that hat.

Here is my attempt at that type of style.

Every holiday I dress up in a different motif or at least try.

Agreed Douglas, I wouldn't restore it either. It's too valuable as an original example to mess with. Mine also is a bit eaten and in fact isn't my size so wearing it has never been an option. I have several in the collection that I feel the same way about, including an 1860s Dunlap that the leather is falling out of but just can't bring myself to do anything but admire and study it.

Oh man. You still have that hat? That is definitely a winner if I remember it right. :eusa_clap

J

Damn if I could only look that good. Teddy is about my size. The hat does look similar but I think his has a wider brim and a taller crown. I should have someone make me one like that. I don't think I will be able to find an original.
The hat I'm wearing is a custom hat from The Colorado Mountain Hat co. It is a little stiff but I think it has not been broken in yet. I like this hat a lot. It is not made from the best materials I think but it is made well and is exactly what I asked for and they were fine to work with.

I like the side dents and they stamp a cool graghic on the underside of the brim centered on the back of the sweat band bow.

Here is one more of me under the hat.

Hm. I'm wondering if I could steam this Knox to look like that. If I flattened the brim, so it was more of a pencil curl than a Homburg thing... (since people have pointed out that it isn't a true Homburg).

Douglas,

Great looking hat. I'm pretty sure what you have is spot on. It looks great. What I've been trying to find is the jacket Teddy's wearing. It has the two flap pockets on top with what looks like either patch pockets or side entry pockets. I love how it buttons up and the lapels. Some Carhartts come close but not exact. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

Cheers!
