I am not really sure the Lounger's name whose hat and picture this is, but I really like it. I hope you don't mind me posting it for a point of clarification. My remembrance is that this is an Akubra Bushmaster with a replaced bigger ribbon. Is that correct? The color is a tan that looks wonderful. I love the hat and the picture. This hat is still available from either someone in Australia or DM? Is that right?

This is a great hat and pic. I want one! Phil

I'm pretty sure that's Tone. If I'm right, that could be anything from an AB Deluxe to Stetson Temple! He can work some serious bashing-mojo! (ok, I might be exaggerating a little.)

oooh. Nice post.

This should be interesting.

I would have to search, but mine is the fellow from Las Vegas with the Bowler when there was a discussion of bowlers as costume ahts. He wore black suit with vest and pocketwatch with chain in the vest.

Very "contemporary-vintage"...great look.

Perhaps someone knows of it. (on the move now, can't do as search)

I've posted perhaps a half-dozen or so bowler-with-ensemble pics but it sounds like you are describing this one. If so, I thank you very kindly for thinking of me in regards to this particular topic.

I have two photos that are my favorites!
The first is Rick Blaine...

I just love the way this thin ribbon looks on him.

The second is Harp Player Gene in his Supernatural straw.

@SlimPortly:

Thank you (both)...that's it.

Excuse my laziness, I was on a train.

I realize this may not have been the intent of this thread (other members), but it could be?

Anyway, I could not carry that look (I don't think..) but you carry it very well and have a great sense of style and what suits you.

Very *smart* .. I'll remember it.

<EDIT: PS . The shot of "dinerman" is cool...thanks for posting that. nice hat .

:arated: I'm with you on this one, Rusty. This has to be my favorite hat picture in a long while. Great composition and the light coming from the right make this one something special.

Hi Portolan. Please PM me the information as to where you found that copy of my original picture without the source associated to it. :)

And another thing! - Where do I find one of those super cool Woolrich safari jackets?! That is just the coolest jacket! :D

Thank you very much for the comment on the hat and picture (and thank you G Man for confirming the information by referencing the original. And to the member who kindly sent me the heads up on this post.)

Yes, it is an Akubra Bushman in which I have trimmed the bound edge and replaced the ribbon. I bought it knowing that was exactly what I was going to do with it but not because it doesn't look good otherwise. Just a preference. (I'll most likely keep the bound edge on my Squatter.)

This is a pretty good - if not slightly dark - depiction of what the David Morgan Bushman looks like without a trimmed brim or ribbon replacement.

The color looks very similar to the one in your current avatar, Portolan. If you like that color you'll be pleased with the Bushman's in person, I think. The only question is whether or not you like the brim at its default width or if you'd prefer trimming it down.

It's been a great 'field' hat that is neither fedora nor western, but can be styled into either. How to describe the Bushman completely? It's just one of those hats where you say, "I...just...like the thing."

So, that Woolrich? Any hints as to where I might find one? :D Thanks again.

Aww, cool! Thanks, Rusty - I am honored. That hat IS an old friend and I've had to patch it together on the inside a few times and re-sew the sweatband in all around. It just won't die though and I'm glad of that. Looking forward to wearing it again this summer.

Oh, and for the record ANY of the shots of you with a thin ribbon and that great rocky creek background you've posted rate among the best shots on TFL.
