The 'standards' that most folks like:

1. Road To Perdition
2. Miller's Crossing
3. Last Man Standing

...and pretty much any movie made in the 30's & 40's.

Rob

I agree with you about the older movies but the modern era films which 'recreate' the era I have generally not enjoyed and often can't even sit through as they seem to me to be mostly about production design. To me they generally seem contrived and somewhat souless.

I like the less known Murder my Sweet (1944) with Dick Powell.

Vertigo, with James Stewart; though it's from 1958 and set in that time, he wears a dark fedora (mink brown, I think) during much of the film.

His clothes are outstanding in that movie. As to the movie, I've always thought that he has more chemistry with Barbara Bel Geddes' character than off-kilter Kim Novak's character.

I agree with just about all the mentioned films...
Plus, one caught me off guard, "The Dress Maker" a Kate Winslet film made in Australia, an Akubra lover's dream flick!

And "Gangster Squad" for a modern film. Ahh, "Mulholland Falls", another one.

For Film Noir, Laura, and Double Indemnity are two favs...plus Tokyo Joe, and Although not Film Noir, I love William Holden's milan in Sabrina.

Watched that movie "Boomerang" with Dana Andrews...He's wearing the same hat he wore in "Laura". GREAT!! I love that hat, so I guess that must be his hat...It was bashed a little different but definitely the same hat....It's funny when the hat becomes as recognisable as the actors...}8^)) We have all seen those movie icon hats....like how many movies did Jimmy Stewart wear that Brown "Vertigo" fedora or that "FBI Story" thin ribbon?

I started scanning through Dana Andrews Flicks on Youtube and that Laura hat has shown up in more than three...Now we need a thread for those hats that made multiple movies...Enough to become a co-star along with the owner/actor. Now I want to know just how many movies did those same hats show up in...lol!

Thought of a couple more...

City Heat (1984), and, reluctantly... Harlem Nights (1989).... The language in that show's attrocious but the great acting and the fedoras are abundant throughout.

At the time HARLEM NIGHTS was released, the studio did a full blown merchandising promotion for it.

Unfortunately, the film BOMBED big time... and the merch got blown out at giveaway prices online.

I'm the proud owner of an official HARLEM NIGHTS fedora! Made by Stetson, I picked it up for something
like twenty bucks... an absolute STEAL!

That one only gets taken out of it's hat box on special occasions... usually New Year's Eve.

Personally... I thought it was a good movie that didn't deserve the bad mouthing it got from the critics.
Anytime Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Redd Fox cut loose in their full, uncensored glory it's GOTTA
be a Good Time!
