How long? Gee, I've had hats from earliest childhood and always, starting with westerns from when we moved from Detroit to a rural part of Central Florida - horses, rattlesnakes and all.

In high school, I wore (and eventually wore out) my grandfather's Milan straw snap brim, and occasionally wore newsboys.

Over time I acquired several leather hats, several wool fedoras (I guess thier popularity got a big boost in the 80s with the IJ movie momentum) and continued to replace westerns as needed.

It's only been in the last couple of years that I've been collecting vintage fur felt fedoras and now those are all I'm interested in. My father was born in 1914 - yes, fourteen - and was in the clothing business in Detroit back in the heyday so style was something he knew about and shared.

I've always been enamored with the 1940s and I suppose I watched one too many Turner Classic Movies and then went on a binge which hasn't stopped yet!

Great collection Gene. Did you have any more luck finding other hats while in Memphis antiquing, after that first hat you found?

I found myself a new hat yesterday in an antique shop. An Adam, silverbelly OR style with wonderfully softy felt in amazing shape. It was in an Adam hat box with paintings all over from the NY World's Fair. Don't know if that was original to the hat.

Hey Warbird! How ya' doin'?

Naw, didn't find any other hats (to my liking) in Memphis other than that Goldsmith's. That was OK though since I didn't have any more room to pack hats for the flight.

I do, however, have half a dozen different ones (including a OR clone in tan by Champ) coming from different sources from EB auctions recently.

So much for being on the wagon...
