My brand new Eastman Roughwear A-2 1401p jacket fit question

An awfully nice jacket, but with those recent fit pics I think another contract or size that is more in tune with your physique would be a better option. I usually prefer roomier jackets because I'm a slob, but in your case I think you deserve a better fitting model.

Looking at your new pics Big7, it definately does look a tad too big for you & too wide at the shoulders. Have you measured it & compared the dimensions to what they should be for a 42 ? ....could be a wrong size label was sewn in. I would sell it on unless you don't mind looking like you've borrowed your dad's jacket. You obviously aren't happy with the fit (rightly so in my opinion) & it isn't going to miraculously improve with time. It would be interesting to know if those telling you to keep it would actually wear it themselves like that.......I doubt it.

HRA rep. Well I don't have anything compare it to, but it feels and looks very luxurious to me.

Thank you for the closeups! Unfortunately, they confirm what I was seeing: a vast absence of grain. Please see the stock images of the 1401-P from our website and ELC's below, as well as a closeup of how great and grainy some Vintage WarHorse can be in Havana Brown (in this case, from a Werber 1729 A-2). The hide on your A-2 reminds me of what ELC was using back in 2009 and this concerns me regarding shipments of jackets we have soon arriving.

Ok, I just noticed something significant! This A-2 is not new!!! It may be new to you, but it's not new production. Please note the use of light-shade O. D. thread in the assembly, which was discontinued on this style a few years ago. Unless ELC has started using this color thread again and we don't know about it, this A-2 is several years old and that would explain the absence of grain in the hides. And the patterns were slightly modified about the same time the thread color changed, thus this A-2 also doesn't fit quite like new production.

If you can show or supply the jacket number as found on the pocket label, it could be determined approximately when this A-2 was made.

That is the problem. I really hate letting it go and I want it to work. This is simply the best jacket I have ever had , but I don't want to look like a fool . The measurements from pit to pit is 23", shoulder to shoulder is 18.75" , back length to bottom of ribbing is 27" and sleeve length is 25.5 from shoulder to end of ribbing. But I'm thinking that I'm a size 40 in these jackets, because I have Bill Kelso roughwear, which I just listed in classifieds and it is a bit loose as well, though because it is not as new as this one it fits me a bit better closer to the body.
HPA rep the pocket production says 1010 on it. I have mentioned in the beginning that this jacket was a present. I don't know when it was made. It is clearly a jacket that was never worn, in a brand new condition and no offense but I don't care that much for a grainy worn out leather look that they have now, judging by your images.
I personally love this leather. It feels and looks really nice, and I'm really bummed out that I have to sell it.

Initially, my vote was to say the jacket looks great on you and it looks fantastic (even with the lack of grain, which I actually prefer) and it just needs some good wearing about as much as possible and in whatever weathers you can manage … and some floungers (like me) prefer a more blousey fit, rather than a more fitted one. There's no right or wrong in it - it's just personal preference.
But the subsequent photos made me reconsider as there's blousey - and then there's baggy. As Nick says, another A2 type would give you a better-fitting jacket; one that looks like you're wearing it, instead of it wearing you - maybe a Star Sportswear A2 would also be something to consider?
Yours will sell no problem at all, so better to let it go and use that money to get something that you feel totally better about wearing. As the motto for Croft's Original used to say, "One instinctively knows when something is right" - and this jacket doesn't tick that box - just not for you. It will look right for someone else though, and you're after a jacket that's going to last you many, many years to come, so I think you'll feel much better in a jacket that fits your build and makes you feel good wearing and that looks all yours.

I hear you about how attached you are to the jacket already - and I get it. It's a lovely jacket.
Were the second set of photos taken with the jacket zipped up?
If not, then I'd say that you would have a blousey jacket and it's up to you - it wouldn't bother me at all and I'd keep it.
But if it was zipped up, I'd let it go.

The second set was taken with jacket unzipped , but this is how I prefer to wear it.
I want to thank everyone for their input, it really helped me a lot.
I will list it in classifieds and if it sells great, I will probably get something from GW to get custom fit to my liking and if not, I will just enjoy and wear it ( I will just try to bulk up , it is not that hard at my age, specially in the belly area )

Big 7, I'd flip that get one that fits you properly - it might shape in a little, but it's always going to be too big for you. Here's a question: if you'd tried that on in a shop, would you still have bought it? If not, then don't hang on to it. Everyone here's been in your position, and it's just awful because you'll have been dying to get your hands on it, but it'll bug you silly until you decide to flip it, and if you do it quickly enough then you'll get maximum return and able to get one that fits you properly.

I got a Good Wear Perry second hand, but new. I fell in love with it.
Took me months to come to realize that it was too small. Passed it on to someone who likewise loved it so that was my consolation.
As you've been told, you'll never get over it and enjoy like you should.
It is painful, but in the end, the right move. Good luck.

Don't do it. .....some leathers will shrink, sometimes,.... but not uniformally & no jacket will shrink down a size or two & the seams will remain unchanged...not to mention the damage to the lining. You'll end up with a mess, worse, a jacket you'll never be able to sell.

It'll sell in a heart beat. In my experience, you can hot water the arms, which will stiffen the leather and helps with wrinkling, thus shortening the arms, but jumping in the bath won't shrink the jacket overall as such. I seem to recall people here saying that even where they managed to get the size down by sticking it the washing machine(!), it invariably reduced at a different proportion from the lining. In short: don't jump in the bath with it on.

Don't do it. Just sell it if you're not comfortable with the fit.

Some profess that shrinking hides already put together as a jacket has always produced good results for them. However, assuming that everything will shrink uniformly is surely a risk that it may not. Then what would you do..?? For me, it would be completely ruined.

Or until you try again this fall when the weather turns cooler. My experience with any new clothing is that if you don't love it from the get go, you will sooner than later hate it. Nice jacket though and shouldn't have any trouble selling it.

For me, nothing, I mean nothing, is more important than the fit of the jacket! If the jacket doesn't fit properly, I don't care who the maker is, how beautiful the leather is, how great the materials are, I don't want the jacket. I have purchased jackets from almost every major jacket maker except GW over the years and have been unhappy with almost all of them. It is amazing how hard it is to get a jacket that fits you like a dream. For me, even custom made jackets have been a bust! Fortunately for me, I found a manufacturer that made a jacket that fits me like a glove and man what a great feeling that is!
