Daisy, you are always the cutest! Love those dresses on you!

And JitterBugDoll, I'm with you on the yellow. There's no other color I love wearing more than yellow, it always cheers me up! You look lovely in the dress too.

My best look ever:

A three-quarter length pale yellow shirt with thin white stripes and a slight ribbed texture... it had a shallow scoop neck and buttoned up the top third of the shirt; a pair of darker jeans; and strawberry blonde shoulder-length hair. Sigh.

Are guys allowed?

Are guys allowed to contribute here? If so, my hands down best look was my old tux. I used to (still do, actually) MC dances at the New York Swing Dance Society at the old Cat Club in 13th St, and I had a really cool 40's vintage tux that I wore. Double breasted, super wide lapels with that nice heavy ribber satin on the lapels, and a cool George Raft tuck at the waist. It had all sorts of nice hand work on it. Sadly, the Cat Club closed down, (tho the NYSDS found another great venue) my tux just wore out, and my waistline expanded just enough (or rather just too much . . . ) so that I couldn't get into it any more. But with my hair slicked down, in my snazzy tux, introducing those great Big Bands, I felt COOL. Oh yes, a red carnation in my lapel. Totally cool.

JBD... you are such a classic doll. lovely.

I don't think i've had my best look, but in a general way i get closer to it all the time. I come from a family of clothes-horses, so we tend to take it all a bit too seriously sometimes. It has taken me a long time to figure out what exact elements express ME, and in what doses. Where I'm at now is definitely most satisfying.

I like black a lot because when I wear it, I feel like thinking is easier. I often feel that if I wear a color all day, I tend to *be* that color in aspect, and that can get tiresome after hour 5. (Yes, I think about dressing *that* theoretically.) I also like black because it makes me think of elegance, and feels very no-nonsense. Plus, I think my base style always starts in the Deco period. I like simple, stark lines, swaths of primary colors, very few prints and patterns, slight Asian influences. I like rich fabrics and complimentary textures... a nubby coat with a silk dress or some such.

In recent memory a look I was happy with was a cotton, white and grey striped, cap-sleeve, tea-length wrap dress with full skirt, knee-high black heeled lace up leather boots, and canary yellow double breasted over coat with black buttons. I looked like June Clever crossed with a wasp and a witch.

Thank you, Beaucaillou! :)

You ought to post a picture of your outfit, or another of the creations you are pleased with. It sounds like you have great style!

Another color that always brightens my day is jadeite green. I love wearing shades of it--I think it is a very happy color. :)

JitterbugDoll, that black and white photo is awesome! It was lit perfectly, totally looks like a photo from the golden era. :eusa_clap
Agreed. If anyone had posted that and said, "This was my great aunt, taken in 1943," I would not have doubted it for a second.

That may be the first contemporary vintage photo I have ever seen that looks totally authentic.

Well, being that it's in the PR, then the author of the thread probably meant it to be on the topic of women's clothes, but it might not be a bad idea to start a brother thread like this over in the guy's General Attire room.

Thanks so much for all of these sweet sentiments! I can always count on you ladies to help put a smile on my face:)

Nicoletta, I've been collecting about 2 years. But, I have always worn the classic tailored look. My friends used to laugh at me because I would dress up just for a casual get together at one of their houses. So, I always had it in me. When I started buying actually vintage clothes I was a bit excited that I had finally found a style that I really loved and felt comfortable in too. I ended up stockpiling every vintage article of clothing I could find from the thirties and forties. Nothing like diving in head first!! Actually, I've added vintage accessories to some outfits that I had before I started the vintage thing, and one wouldn't even know that these modern outfits weren't vintage. I guess I had it in me all along.
