I like it......it's not as nice or dramatic as yours Carter,:D because it's a bit stingy, but I like the little 3/8" bound Brim on it. It also says inside that it's a 3X Beaver, yet on the lining it states that it's a blend. The felt it very soft to touch, but not that pliable to work with, it was fairly hard for me to get the side dents out with just steam while cleaning like I do with all my hats, so I left the center crease in it for now. I'm keeping the feathers on this one, I think they set it off nicely, just my opinion. It's your basic Stingy dimensions, 5" Crown, 1 5/8" brim, and a 1 7/8" black grosgrain. Overall I think it's a nice hat, it was definitely well worth what I paid for it, that's for sure....$19.oo shipped. By the way I see that Stevens had made hats since 1917, the original price tag was $10.25, it fell out while cleaning....can someone date it for me? Thanks.

bolthead, That's a beautiful hat. It takes me back to 1965, when I graduated from high school. If you have a three button suit, with narrow lapels, a white button down shirt, a 1" wide tie, and slightly pointed slip on wing tips; you'll
be historically accurate. Whatever you pair it with, wear it and enjoy! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Thanks JT....

It's the only Stingy I own that has a bound edge on the Brim, That's what caught my eye as soon as I seen it.....I don't know how common this is for Stingy's, but it's the first one I've seen since scouring OFAS. :D

Nice acquisition, Bolthead!

The 3X and the liner identifying it as "Beaver Blend" are not contradictory, as the X system apparently was originally meant to indicate a percentage of beaver used. (That subject has been hashed over repeatedly, of course.)

You know, come to think of it I'm not sure I've seen too many stingies with bound brims, either. I do own a Stetson Eagle with a 2" brim that has a bound brim, but it's only 1/4". Others I've seen with other than a raw edge were either Cav edged or with an under- or overwelt.

In this case, the wider edge binding seems to give it a more authoritative look to it, if you know what I mean.

Looking forward to seeing you in it!

Cheers,
Tom
