Do we know what kind of hat this is that he wears?

Hard to say without any info but I looked at some other pics and it looks like a hat with dimensions similar to an OR but it has a raw edge and a home made ribbon; looks to be a thin strip of leather wrapped twice around the hat. Dimensions are a guess but maybe a brim width in the range of 2 1/2 -3” and a 5 1/2” crown height.

I think that's a hat with just the right amount of character, and still seems to have a lot of life left in it.
